If this is the last year of the Shanahan era in Washington, I think it will be remembered most for its collective stubbornness.

For 4 years the Redskins have fielded an undersized and slightly talented offensive line and then expected somehow to develop consistency on that side of the ball.

Go ask Joe Gibbs, Bill Parcells or Jimmy Johnson if the success if your qb and skill players is limited by the potential of the guys up front.

While the team did draft Trent Williams in 2010, that was it in terms of meaningful investment.

In free agency the team paid salaries and bonus to players like Josh Morgan and Brandon Meriweather instead of looking for any upgrades on the suspect line.

The truth is that Shanahan's system of using undersized linemen to boost the running game has been made obsolete by the rules changes that now see the Super Bowl teams usually be ones that rely first on the pass and then on the run. Protecting the qb is a team's job no. 1.

On defense the same kind of thinking about absolutes had the team mired in a 4 year pattern of bottom third units because the personnel to run that 3-4 scheme effectively are still not here.

Meanwhile the New York a Giants have won 2 Super Bowls in the past 5 plus years running a traditional 4-3.

The personnel here in the front seven both in terms of talent and experience look to be better suited to the 4-3. And after finishing at 30th overall what does the team have to lose?

Well, the head coach who is also the GM and father of the OC has a lot to lose in terms of ego and prestige if he were to come out and admit some changes in approach are necessary.

And that's why I feel he will never make any significant changes and so needs to go.

If ever a game emphatically illustrated your point Bulldog, it was last nights. What we saw last night, from a physical standpoint, was boys against men. At some point, screaming at the boys out there to 'play better' just defies logic. Until we get physical, imposing replacements for our 'not up to the task' lightweights, we will continue to lose the line battles that ultimately determine whose will is going to be imposed on whom.

We made Ahmad Brooks look like the second coming of Lawrence Taylor. It was bad out there.

For reasons I can't explain...I watched the entire game. Watched the game like I would any other show. Never got excited when we made a first down or mad when we did something wrong. All I did was watch a bad football game.

I am so glad don't have season tickets anymore. The price of season tickets should be slashed so those going get their money's worth.

On one hand, I'd like to see what our backup lineman can do, but then again, if it's even worse than what it is now, I don't want to put RG3 in even more harm's way

That's why we should dress Rex, and throw him to the wolfs with the untested linemen. Could be entertaining.

I think in follow-up that the Redskins need to be done with the 'veteran' coach who won a decade or more ago (Shanahan, Gibbs II) or in another league (Spurrier in college).

We need to hire a GM that is going to find the next Harbaugh or Sean Payton who is going to be hungry to build a winner using whatever schemes and personnel groupings WORK rather than what worked 10-20 years ago.

The most disappointing thing about Shanahan is that his coaching hires have perhaps been the worst part of his work as the de facto GM.

Keith Burns took a special teams that was middle of the road and ran it into the ground.

I can't see what value Bob Slowik has added in any of the positions he has held, the younger linebackers under his charge don't seem to have improved measurably. Orakpo and Riley still seem to be getting by mostly on raw talent.

Shanahan and Foerster together haven't done much to develop and promote the younger OL on this roster. You draft LeRibeus in the third round and two years later he is still made inactive on game day? He isn't good enough to even be considered the top backup off the shelf?

Evidently LeRibeus came into camp out of shape and has been in the doghouse ever since, but once again doesn't that to a degree reflect back on the staff for not keeping in touch with players and ensuring they are working in the offseason to prepare for the upcoming campaign?

In the day, did we see many players show up at Carlisle out of shape when Joe Gibbs was beginning camp?

No, because guys, especially younger guys on the bubble, realized it might be a quick ticket out of town.

Here we continue to have Fred Davis, Josh Morgan and guys like LeRibeus on the roster but they are never allowed to play for one reason or another and yet we don't let them go and bring in guys who are at least hungry for a shot.

Does anyone see a reason to keep Davis for the last 5 weeks of the season?

The Redskins are out of the playoff chase and it is time to evaluate players. We already know Fred is a knucklehead and doesn't want to be here.

Instead of punishing Davis by keeping him inactive but taking up a roster spot, let's stop hand-cuffing ourselves and put a 53 man roster together of guys that actually want to play football.
