REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed wide receiver Nick Williams to the team’s active roster from its practice squad. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In addition, the team signed running back Davin Meggett to its practice squad and placed running back Chris Thompson on the Reserve/Injured list.

Williams (5-10, 184) was originally signed by the Redskins as a college free agent on May 2, 2013. After being waived on Aug. 31, the team added him to its practice squad on Sept. 1.

He played collegiately at UConn, where he earned first-team All-Big East honors at punt returner as a senior in 2012 after returning 21 punts for an average of 12.0 yards and two touchdowns. Two years earlier, Williams led the Football Bowl Subdivision in kickoff return average, finishing the 2010 season with a 35.3-yard average. His 2,045 career kickoff return yards at UConn are a school record.

Williams, 22, attended The Hun School in Princeton, N.J., where he earned all-conference honors on both offense and defense as a junior and senior. He was born on Nov. 23, 1990.

Meggett (5-8, 219) was originally signed by the Houston Texans as a college free agent on May 14, 2012. He spent the majority of the 2012 season on the Texans’ practice squad before signing to the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad on Dec. 11, 2012. He was released by the Colts on Aug. 25, 2013, before signing to the Dallas’ Cowboys practice squad on Oct. 15. He was released by the Cowboys on Oct. 29.

Meggett, 23, played collegiately at Maryland, where he played in 50 career games with 17 starts, carrying the ball 485 times for 2,411 rushing yards with 18 rushing touchdowns and catching 46 passes for 454 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Meggett attended Surrattsville H.S. in Clinton, Md., where he was a first-team All-Prince George’s County, all-met and all-league selection in 2007. He was born on March 22, 1990. His father, Dave, played in the NFL for the New York Giants (1989-94), New England Patriots (1995-97) and New York Jets (1998).

Thompson, 23, was drafted by the Redskins in the fifth round (154th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. He appeared in Washington’s first four games this season, returning seven punts for 36 yards (5.1 avg.) and eight kickoffs for 160 yards (20.0 avg.).

AWESOME! I am so incredibly pumped for this move...finally a punt returner who can actually do something with the ball, and doesn't weigh 110lbs soaking wet.

Wife and I both liked Nick Williams in training camp. Were sad he didn't make it to the reg squad.

Go prove something Williams. Hell, he could even be a serviceable (read: 4th WR) slot guy next year if he proves valuable on ST.

Shoot, if he plays his cards right and shows up to work, he could vault himself into the no. 3 WR slot spot. Presumably Moss doesn't continue after this offseason (not dismissing him, just think he's at that point in his career) and Williams can learn under him the remainder of the season, he can hopefully develop to someone who can do some damage.

Nick "Remo" Williams...The adventure begins.

Too bad his dad (Meggetts) turned out to be a total *insert whatever*

If Dave Meggett had made a career of playing QB against us, he'd be the greatest of all time.

That mother ****ing halfback pass. RAWR!!!

not to mention special teams, he was a kick/punt returner too! I hated that guy, always found a way to beat us.

We get payback, by hazing his son........

hazing, not bullying :paranoid:

Let's just hope Shanahan actually plays the kid. He's had other options all year, and yet, Morgan has been our no-return, return man.

Shanahan doesn't like to reverse a Shanahan executive decision.

I think the writing is on the wall for Morgan that he's on his way out. Garcon/Hank have a spot for next year, Robinson for whatever reason seems to be on the Shanny's favorable side, Moss has a roster spot next year if he wants it (but I think he walks away), Briscoe is on IR, but that WR spot is going to only get better with young talent. If Williams shows pretty much ANYTHING, I think Morgan has to start working on his resume come the end of the season.

Just looked at contracts, and it appears Moss/Briscoe/Morgan are free agents and Robinson is an RFA. We might be seeing a very different looking WR corps next season.

I think Robinson is gone after this year. They like him as a deep threat but you have to bring something more to the table. You have to be able to do something other than run a basic go route and try to out run your defender. If that's all you can do they just put a safety over you and keep you from ever getting open.

They've tried multiple times to use him underneath for things and he either doesn't get open or doesn't catch the ball.

He's been targeted 11 times and caught 4 of them for a total of 92 yards and 1 TD.

He just isn't good enough to be anything other than a random 5th string guy that catches a ball because the defense forgot to put a guy over the top.

Morgan is gone next year. I'm pretty sure Moss is too. Dunno if they'll give Robinson another year.

I expect we'll be adding a few WRs to our roster with all that cap space.

I agree with you, but I sure am tired of doing that. Outside of Moss we just cant seem to find someone stable to stay.

No doubt.. Kinda sad that some of the longest tenured WRs for this team in recent history are Rod Gardner and Michael Westbrook.... Moss has been great, but outside of him, it's been a virtual revolving door.

WR is a position we've ignored for almost 20 years. Hankerson is our best prospect we've had in terms of actually getting on the field and doing stuff, and he's just starting to do that (the jury is still out, though he looks like he's improving even if it is slower than we want)

It's what happens when you have bad draft after bad draft and in addition to that you constantly miss in free agency.

I mean seriously. Fred Davis is inactive because he sleeps through meetings and Brian Orakpo is at best above average. We spent 4 picks in the first two rounds that year (Thomas and Kelly) and what did we get out of it? An above average LB (that is playing out of place) that may wind up being a solid guy in the long term.

We forget how completely dysfunctional this organization was. It takes time to recover from that level of ineptitude.
