Im more than a little jealous of my daughters. They got to start learning a sword form while I have to wade through a 100 move short staff form instead. Sifu even gave them swords to take home and practice with!

Just finished week 2 of the Wolverine workout and every major muscle group in my body is sore. I've never had a workout that has made every group sore, it's usually just 2 or 3 groups at the end of the week. LOVE this workout!

When I took martial arts as a kid, I LOVED the wooden sword I was given to practice my "kata" with at home. Although, I have to admit, my parents had to regulate quite a bit as I had a tendency to try use it against my siblings during fights, lol.

Here's a pic of my weight loss.

Nah j/k, found a pair of 46" pants intended for some fatass. Hell I didn't even know they made them that big, lol.

Dude, I have a friend that is 6'2" tall and 438 lbs, and he's a 46, how did the dude that fits those pants get in the military? Are the standards that low for the Air Force?

I just noticed your location, do you know Christopher Sowa? He was out there for a few years and recently transferred to Hawaii. I don't know how big the base is in Alaska, but he seems to know a million and a half people so I thought I'd ask.

Yeah I have yet to meet anyone that's even remotely close to a 46, and that's in any branch. That's what surprised me when I found them, they were made for some heffalump.

Doesn't sound familiar but ill check. It's a huge base base btw.

Totally excited! After nursing a shoulder injury for the past several months I've been cleared to start Cross Fit back up. Whoot! Whoot! So tomorrow night I get to start classes again. Still planning on doing my weight training routine with my partner, but am wanting to do at least a day or two a week of high-intensity crossing training. Anyway, just happy to be cleared to go :)

On a sidenote, tonight my sister-in-law dragged me out of the weight room to take the new hip-hop dance class with her. I don't think I've laughed that hard in years! I've never liked the typical aerobics/step/zumba classes and prefer the weight room or Cross Fit, but this class was hilarious, probably because I took it with her and we were screwing around the whole time. Anyway, guess it's good to try new things...although it's not really a high intensity workout I'm sure I'll do it again simply for the comedic value.

Been meaning to post in here for a while...

Down another 10 lbs, 55 lbs since Feb. Feeling really good about things, but I have noticed a little bit of a plateau. So I went to the Y and asked the fitness instructor to strength test me and adjust my workouts. She tested my arm, leg, shoulder, back and chest strength and that was pretty awesome because there were dramatic improvements from 3 months ago when I started working out in earnest. For example, when I started I could only do 20 crunches (stop laughing, I was fat AND out of shape, horribly) in one minute, and now I'm up to 45. Pretty good progress.

So tomorrow is the first day of the revised workout plan. I'm dreading that I may not be able to lift my fingers tomorrow morning, we'll see. She also recommended I get to the Y half an hour earlier at 6am and take the Combat Training class Tues and Thurs, my off days from the weight stuff. And take a Yoga class on Friday mornings. I'm not actually sure I have time for all this, and the Combat Training scares the piss out of me. We'll see.

Anyway, getting thinner and thinner. I love it, the wife loves it, it's a good feeling. Still have another 20-ish lbs to go, but now it looks like I have a beer gut, not that I'm pregnant.

So my wrist is still slowly healing. My back is feeling better but my right knee is now acting up. I think the official term is Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome. A nice resonant crackling sound when I bend my knee and some general soreness when I jump or do any deep knee bends. Doc says I'm not in danger of doing any permanent damage so I'm just going to gut it out. I've been trying to lose a little more weight to help the knees a little and I'm now down another three pounds over the past two weeks. I think to get much lower I'll need to do some real serious dieting, which I'm not quite ready to do.

Target date for my test is still February. I'm passing that test even if I have to take it on one leg, dammit.

Hey Goal, just curious, what kind of training program did the fitness instructor put you on?

BTW, huge congratulations on your fitness improvements! Definitely something to be very proud of :)

I've been using ActivTrax, which is a blend of free weights and the Nautilus machine, then increasing numbers of crunches, along with 20 minutes of cardio (I use the arc trainer) three times a week. I've been supplementing during the off days with more crunches and cardio, and then playing basketball with my son on Saturdays, but the instructor thinks I need to switch things up to keep my body guessing, and she is probably right.

Sounds like you're really active, that's great! And it's great you have an instructor you can go to for good advice and motivation when you hit those plateaus. Keep on picking her brain because trust me, it's never more satisfying for those of use who work in health & fitness to help out people who are committed to healthy change. It's just so rewarding to help others get excited about health and all its benefits, including increased quality of life :)

And just from my personal experience with plateaus in fitness gains, it is extremely important to reexamine what you're eating (to make sure you haven't eased up on your vigilance of your clean eating) in addition to changing routines and types of cardio every 6-8 weeks. This is just my fitness experience as well as the experiences of many of my workout buddies, several of whom are trainers. For instance, my workout partner (who's a trainer) has us starting new weight lifting programs every 6 weeks.

I might pick YOUR brain some more if you're not careful. :)

I am still on Weight Watchers, which I think is great. I do a pretty good job eating mostly chicken, pork and fish; the challenge is finding new and exciting ways to cook them. But overall I'd say I'm doing well with what I eat.

I've got an awesome new pork recipe I'll share with you, but its at home. :) Got it from Eating Well magazine, which I also highly recommend.

Share, that'd be great. We still make the chicken tacos recipe once a month, kids love it.

Yeah I quoted myself.

Well, the new workouts didn't (for some reason) kick in until this morning. I am having trouble typing now. I think I still have shoulders, but couldn't swear to it.

So my workout partner has convinced me to a 16-week weight training program called "Get Swole" (yeah, love the name, lol). One of our girlfriends is on the last week of the program and has made serious muscle gains and significantly lowered her body fat level. Anyway, I'm excited to start this on Monday (and no, I'm not worried about getting big like a guy; girls can't get like without some serious steroid use, which I'm obviously against :) )

Here's the program if anyone is interested:

Any time :) I like doing what I can to help people out, especially with health and fitness :)

Have this hot little trainer telling me burpees are a helluvan exercise. Gonna go superset burps with jump chin-ups now, probably gonna puke too.

That's right, puke out the weakness! ;) J/K, don't kill yourself, buddy!
