A few things stand out about the game for me. I had a friend remind me about Chris Johnson so I am less inclined now to point out our lack of run D, but that doesn't explain why their 2nd string RB churned off some chunks against our DL. We need to do something to stop the run, our DL looked suspect...as expected, I guess.
I was impressed with Amerson, for a 2nd round pick I can see him starting at CB to start the season. Minnifield looked pretty solid too. Rambo looked like a rookie. No problem with that, but he needs to make up for it over the next couple of games. Just when I thought Gomes was done on a terrible play last night, he came back with a few solid plays to make me think he's not ready to be cut...yet.
Rak looked like a man possessed...but he looked the same in pre-season last year. I hope he can stay healthy!
Our Pass Pro sucks! If Cousins wasn't quick enough to step back, get the read and deliver as fast as he does, he would have looked like Rex last night. Instead, he looks like a very comfortable NFL QB in spite of the pressure being put on him. I gotta hand it to the Shanny's, they call a game plan that gets the receivers open quick enough to hide the poor pass pro we have. Rex? Well, he shows how bad our pass pro is. When given time, he delivered some pretty passes, had a nice drive in the 2nd quarter stall because pass pro sucked and he isn't good enough to step back, get his reads in and deliver the ball like Capt Kirk did.
McRib, LeRiebus, looked awful last night. Unless this kid steps up, we could be looking at a 3rd round bust!
As for Pat White, I wasn't sure what to expect after hearing all I had about him being behind in camp. That kid looked good! Piggy backing on Terry's assertion, I don't see Pat White going anywhere. I think he ends up 3rd string behind Cousins through this season to see how Bob comes along and when we maximize the value for Cousins at the end of the season, Pat WHite steps up to #2. I know, I know...it's only one pre-season game, but he looked too comfortable in that offense last night. Cousins is good enough we don't need to maintain the Pistol to keep things going when he goes in, but White looks like a natural fit for the Pistol...if nothing more than to backup Bob. And Terry, he is not as crisp with his passes as Bob, but Pat White had a couple of lasers in tight coverage down the middle of the field, but an absolute beautiful throw out on the sideline for a completion. I was impressed.
As for our 3rd string offense, most of the receivers were 50/50...for every one good catch it looked like they had a bad one. I was not as impressed with Aldrick Robinson last night as I'd hoped. He had one drop that was simply rookie stuff.
Oh...and I would hate to have to decide who our RB's are going to be. Evan Royster was not lying down to the solid performance from Helu. He had a solid outing last night. It looks like it's up to Chris Thompson to get on the field and make an impression if he wants to unseat Royster or Helu.
