Random Commanders Thoughts

Here are some random thoughts about training camp. Just got back, didn't stay as long as I would have liked because the kids were getting tired, but overall it was a blast.

-Amerson made the play of the day, a diving, one handed INT in drills, heckuva catch, really impressive. Dude is HUGE, and can run like a frickin' gazelle. Not an exciting man-crush, but I'm considering...

-Griff looks terrific. Running around, joking with teammates, keeping things lively, had a gorgeous pass down the sidelines to Garcon who caught it, then head faked the defender out of his jock (couldn't see the number of the D)

-Fred Davis is a big man.

-This is for you, Juggy. Reed Doughty is dialed in. During drills, the man was focused, yelling at people to pick it up, slapping helmets, etc. He is ready to go and go hard.

-Chase Minnifield looks like a beast in coverage. Turns his hips and sticks to the WR like glue. Our DBs are going to be MUCH improved this year.

-Pat White was rather meh imo, didn't impress much. Rexy had a couple of nice throws, but a head scratcher too that I saw in drills. Didn't catch Kirk at all, no comment there.

-Josh Wilson looked solid in drills today. I've been reading his camp hasn't been super, but he looked fine today. If he sticks around another year, I won't be surprised, and I think we could do far worse.

-Aldrick can flat out fly. Really smooth breaking out of his routes in drills, once he gets separation from the DB, it's over unless safety help is dialed up. Speed kills folks.

-on a personal note, got chills seeing Fletch and Riley line up together barking orders to get the D set. Way cool. Way cool.

All in all, pretty awesome. Plus the Skins store had a Cooley jersey for $20 that is now hanging up in my closet. The kids had fun, and have each identified someone they put a claim on for who to root for this year, should make the games even more fun. They ooh'd and ahh'd over the Griffin long balls along with the rest of the crowd.

Someone told me recently they were having trouble getting hyped for the season: go to TC if you can. Loads of fun and it will get you ready to go.

Thanks for the update on my boy, Goal. I honestly see this preseason being the biggest challenge to his Redskins' tenure yet. I'd love to see him still around, obviously, but it's gonna be tough. I've heard nothing but good things so far though.

Dude was focused, so much so that my two oldest noticed without me saying anything about it.

With LoZo gone, I think he stays even if it's mainly for ST contributions...

After making a comment about one of my favorite Redskins on twitter, I was pleasantly surprised to get a new follower.

Welcome aboard Ladell Betts!

Who has more of a baby face, ryan kerrigan or danny woodhead?

Danny Woodhead has the baby body (compared to 91) to go with it so he wins. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I hope we get to see the starters do a little more than stretch their legs Thursday.

I don't want Griffin, Garcon, or anyone nursing injuries out there. Williams should probably sit too. Fletcher and Hall should get the night off since they're vets and we don't need them in preseason.

But if Orakpo is 100% I want him and Kerrigan on for at least two series. I want to see the D line working. I want to see Davis out there showing us he can play a few series. Same with Merriweather.

I get that it's just preseason and we need to see the second/third string guys, but we have a lot of question marks with guys that are supposed to be a lock as a starter.

I know winning the NFC East was a big deal, but in the grand scheme of things this team has a lot left to prove. I hope Shanahan doesn't let the starters coast. Would be a bad way to start the season in my opinion.

There are certain times where you have certain types of players that make you say - Yeah, that kid is good enough to make the team and will be on the team, sure he'll make some plays here and there, but as long as people like that are on our team we're never going to be successful.

I remember when Shanahan took over and cut like 2/3 of the roster his first year. I remember watching the game with my buddy and saying "yeah, but as long as McIntosh and HB Blades are on the roster we're never going to do anything of any importance"

I felt the same way about Anthony Armstrong. Liked the dude, he had skills, but he's not even worthy of a backup role on a good team.

Watching him play last night just confirmed that. I hope he makes the cowboys squad - will say a lot about their depth.

I missed that we cut him. I never had the same feelings about him as say Ade Jimoh or Rocky...but yeah, I never really expected anything more than Todd Pinkston-like numbers out of him. Sad to see him in Dallas.

EDIT: I'm an idiot, I was confusing AAA with Aldrick Robinson.

Randomly perusing NFL.com for ****s & giggles, and came across this comment from Mike Mayock about Brandon Jenkins, the Redskins 5th round pick out of FLORIDA STATE:

Pick Analysis: "This is a guy that at this point in the draft is value. Heavy production in the SEC as a pass-rush specialist. When you get in the sub package, this is a guy you can move around a little bit. He can really help you." -- Mike Mayock

How much do these assclowns get paid to spew incredibly wrong information? It boggles the mind.

You just remember to always high light and capitalize FLORIDA STATE!

Go Noles!

Fingers crossed some good solid play all the way around and no you know what's!

Just so you know, my family doesn't like you guys very much. Well, at least tonight they won't.

I've already told them that when I get home, the living room TV belongs to me, and I will be in BGO Chat for the duration. To them, I will be as useless as any other inanimate piece of furniture. :)

gameday makes dressing for work easy.
