I did this last year, and I was successful in picking Alfred Morris as my man-crush, considering the amazing heights he soared to.
So, even though I never received proper accolades for it :( , let's make this an actual contest.
Who's your man-crush this year ?
The only requirement is that he has never been a starter in the league (temporarily replacing someone due to another player's injury doesn't count as being a former starter).
Whoever's man-crush becomes the most successful in 2013, wins the Man-Crush Fan Award.
The prize is you get a "Man Date" with your "Man-Crush" at the end of the season - or so we wish :)
Maybe Om or Boone could arrange that part of it ;)
I havn't quite decided who mine is, yet.
But we have until the 3rd game of the preseason, let's say.

You didn't get accolades because you weren't first! ALFRED IS MINE! ;)

You 2 need help!

Jordan Reed will be the break out player this year. As a rookie he is going to be our 2nd leading receiver.

I can't wait to see what the OLB Jenkins will do but he's got to make a name for himself early before Jackson gets back after his suspension if he wants to be the breakout player.

I don't know who started what, or when. But I know that Lanky was the first I remember cheerleading Morris. Might have been predicting we would draft him. Until evidence proves otherwise, I gotta go with Lanky.

I just wish I could remember who willed Kia Forbath's success on us.

I did not predict we would draft him - I wish I followed FAU football closely enough to have predicted that. I did, however, begin to research and cheerlead him as soon as he was drafted, as he was from my alma-mater. He's only the 3rd or 4th player from FAU to ever BE drafted by the NFL (and the first non-QB), so it was a big deal.

EDIT: he was the 3rd FAU player to ever be drafted, first RB (second non-QB).

2010: Rusty Smith, QB, Tennessee
2011: Rob Housler, TE, Arizona
2012: Alfred Morris, RB, THE MOTHER****ING REDSKINS

Yeah, I thought it was something like that.

As far as 2013 Mancrushes go, I am going to go ahead and lay claim to Jordan Reed. Dude might be the dominant athlete at TE we've been waiting for since Shanahan got here!

Jesse Lumsden
Or
Kevin Mathews

Edit: wait does it have to be a rookie or just new to the team?

Is there a deadline for the pick?

Edit: Just in case there is, I'll go with Aldrick Robinson, FTW.

Lumsden is not back, is he ?
Doesn't have to be a rookie, or even new to the team.
Just someone who is "yet un-proven". Like an underdog.
Could even be someone who came from another team, that never got a chance to blossom,

Is there a deadline for the pick?

Before the start of the 3rd preseason game.
That gives sufficient time to examine them through half of camp and preseason, but at the same time, not too much information that it makes it too easy

Nah Jesse isn't back, my mancrush back in the day. Ill still go with Mathews but wanna throw Paulsen in as honorable mention....no other reason but a hunch.

I just wish I could remember who willed Kia Forbath's success on us.

We were willed success by a Korean car maker known as the "Forbath"? Dang, who knew?

Ok, here are some names to consider...

Brandon Jenkins - Having a very good camp and could negate the need to sign another LB.

Skye Dawson - The UFDA is having a monster camp by all accounts. He can stop on a dime after running full speed and totally turned DHall around on a brilliant fake - so much so that DHall is out for a few days with a tweaked ankle.

Jordan Reed - Right now, the best of the lot. All signs are pointing to a huge 2013, but there are no guarantees. Can the TC success lead to a great regular season?

David Amerson - He is having a good camp and with DHall rehabbing for a brief period of time, Amerson has a chance to showcase his talents in the first two preseason games.

Chase Minnifield - For all intent and purposes, he is still a rookie. The UVA product (had to get that plug in there) is turning heads at Bon Secours.

Xavier Nixon - Don't forget that he is around. The RT position is up for grabs. Can this UDFA rookie leap ahead of the others?

I'm going with Skye Dawson. Jordan Reed probably is the best of the lot, but I love me some longshots.

WOW.

And on the flip side of the ball, wasn't it "rookie" Chase Minnifield that totally owned another veteran, Pierre Garcon, on at least one play ?

Yep. Minnifield also had a nice interception a couple of days ago.

And people call me crazy when I go out of my way to watch preseason games. THIS IS THE BEST PART! :)

Darrel Young

Dude never gets the credit he deserves. I've always liked him and thought he was a key to the running game and pass protection.

Umm...your claim to Jordan Reed is late...find another!
