totally non-political thread!!!!! (RGIII's Future)

so.....where do you think RGIII will be in 10 years? not location (pre-empting the wise guys), but what does the future hold?

I think this guy is so bright and savvy - geeze louise, how many 23 year olds have a wikepedia page?!!! - that whether he has a 2 year or 15 year Redskin career....he is headed for a life few of us can even imagine.

not hero worshipping. you just don't see folks like this guy come along all that often. now, many of us were thinking the same about Tiger Woods and we know the sharp turn that story-line took. but I don't see RGIII making the same mistakes.

I think football greatness will be a prelude to a spectacular political career. but maybe not. whatever he choses he will excel at. it's pretty exciting getting to watch this all unfold.

If his body holds up, I think he has more rings than Mr. T and a first ballot HOF resume. Seriously, RGIII has an incredible combo of drive, intelligence, instinct and athleticism. He also seems to have that something that inspires others to follow him. Unless fate is cruel or someone screws it up this kid seems to be headed for greatness.

I think if he stays healthy he will win a ring. He's just too good not to.

There is a chance he can't take the pounding and he flames out, but I don't want to think about that ...

Lately I've been having some bad thoughts about him, and I suppose this is apt a topic to put them with.

I just wonder if he's going to wind up being 'bigger than the team.' I'm trying to balance that with the fact that our local media is just ridiculous, but lately it's just too much. Especially when his parents start getting in the mix and go out of their way to air dirty laundry or make it sound like there's a rift between Griffin and the coaching staff.

I hope I'm wrong, just bored of the offseason, and not keeping my thoughts in check by how the local media acts.

If he doesn't do that then in 10 years I see him being the most popular, most productive redskin in history. The kind of guy you tell your grand kids about.

I think most of that us manufactured nonsense. Folks are getting upset because people gave RGIII wedding gifts or because some bitter exQB is complaining.

Ignore the sideshow and Griffin hasn't done anything but work his arse off to try to get ready for the season.

I don't think that can be avoided, T.

Teams with top QBs all have to deal with that. Brady, Manning, Brees, hell even Romo ... they are all bigger than the team. Its the nature of the QB beast.

Now, if you mean he becomes bigger than he should be like, say, Tim Tebow, then yeah that's a concern. But only if he doesnt continue to play at the level he did last year. If he, like I said, flames out ... his cult of personality could turn into a huge problem.

If not ... well ... it won't matter.

burg - I agree. I'm hoping I'm just failing at shutting it off right now. Normally I'm pretty good about it... i just have that feeling in my gut, it makes me sick. honestly...

henry - if griffin winds up being bigger than the team in the sense brady and manning are, then that's awesome (could do without brees and romo, but I'm not as high on them as most are, well i guess that applies more to brees) and that would mean the team is everything we want it to be. I just get worried when a players parents start going to the media the way they did; the kicker - i'm not even so sure they meant to drum up controversy, i think they were just being honest and the media did their usual thing.

the feeling was pass. hopefully sooner rather than later. september can't come soon enough (in regards to our football team)

We've waited 20 years for a QB who COULD BE bigger than the team, and that's now a problem? Give me a break. Name a great young QB whose career was ended by a knee injury. It just doesn't happen. All the other nonsense is just folks trying to poke holes in a growing legend.

Let me make this easy for you.

He's real.
And he's spectacular.

agree.

I'm getting at the kind of man this 23 year old is. It's simply remarkable. I haven't seen anything like it in a long, long time.

they say Luck is the better QB...and that may be so....too early to tell. but Luck will never, ever approach RGIII in terms of all the different venues he explores in his life (IMO). Right now...it doesn't look like there is anything in life this kid can't champion when he puts his mind and heart into it. and he is absolutely his own man.

Yeah, I agree with you on that. It's remarkable that he has those opportunities - excuse me, that he's earned those opportunities, and even more so that he seems to not only appreciate them but fully understand them for what they are.

Very rare combination, especially in a football player in a society that (in general) is very entitled or has some sort of expectation of greatness by default.

Health is the question mark. Removing that from the equation, this kid will be on the Mount Rushmore of the NFL.

THANK YOU. Every team with a bonafide QB deals with this; its just a fact of life. The fact that we have to deal with it now is GLORIOUS! /chorusofangels

Griffin has the ability to be one of those great QBs. His knee is the big question mark - but I'm confident that today's knee surgeries are infinitely better than they were even 2-3 years ago, and the stem-cell treatments (and probably a little bit of Santana's HGH treatments) are making his knee better than ever.

Will he win a ring in DC? I sure hope so...but I think he'll win a ring somewhere. I can't see Snyder letting him leave, so I think he'll be a Redskin for life. He is simply a winner - I just can't see his career ending without a championship.

I haven't heard a peep from any QB's parents. Girlfriend/wife caught on the street, yeah we've heard that. Sit down interview with local media saying coach shouldn't use the QB that way and expects coach to change the way he's used? I feel like that's a new one.

Archie Manning?

I think a lot of this is our media asking him questions. The Boston media doesn't ask Tom Brady's dad a zillion questions a day, so there's no reports from him.

Right, I certainly acknowledge and understand that.

I guess I'm not familiar with Archie Manning's comments that created controversy. I know he loves the camera/microphone, but I'd never heard him say anything that wasn't spokesman-like (doesn't mean he hasn't said things like that, I just am not aware of them)

Anyways, I think I probably should have kept my mouth shut and not derailed the thread.

The phrase "Bigger than the team" immediately conjures up in me a somewhat different image than I think most envision here. I think of Brett Favre whose innate talent was infected by an overwhelming ego to the detriment of his team because of his play rather than outside influences.

I don't see Griff going that route, fortunately. He comes across a bit cocky to some and the massive amount of public interest and media coverage is bothersome to a certain extent I guess, but he possesses an absolutely magnetic personality and charm but also an equally impressive level of intelligence and sense of who he really is. I seriously think his childhood upbringing-remember both his parents were career military-has instilled in him a sense of "what I'm supposed to do" that will safeguard him from the "externals" dragging him off track.

His future after football? He's wonderfully articulate and I could see him as possibly the best ex-player media game analyst the NFL has ever seen.

I'd like that myself.

He lives vicariously ... through himself.

This thread is getting a 'lil silly lol.

Seriously, I thought most of last year that RG3 had that "it" that we have wanted our whole lives for our team's QB to be, and thought he may be the NFL's equivalent to Michael Jordon.

But with all the big hits he took last year, and the playoff game fiasco, combined with the rush he and the FO seem to have for him to get back, I just wonder how long he will possibly last.

Should he go on to have the HOF career that we all hope he does, the sky is the limit for him!
