March Madness 2013

I'm not really complaining. I think having the conference tournament champ automatic bids just adds to the excitement. No matter what the system, there will always be teams that deserved to be in that don't make the cut, and teams that are vastly overrated that get in undeservedly, or those that live on their name and accomplishments past. If a team really wants to get in, they control their destiny. Win more.

Tonight Kansas and North Carolina both proved neither deserves to be playing anymore. I have been watching unhealthy amounts of college basketball for over 25 years, and I have never in my life seen an uglier game than I saw tonight.

33 turnovers, 31 fouls, 24 missed 3 pointers, 82 total missed shots. Yep, they combined to shoot 36%. And the only reason it was that high was because Kansas went nuts in the second half and hit 63% of their shots.

Ugly. Ass. Game. Uglier than Terry Bradshaw.

If Kansas had played anyone other than North Carolina tonight, they would have set the tournament record for the biggest loss by a 1 seed. But I don't feel too bad about my Tarheels. If they hadn't gotten hot at the end of the year, they would've been playing in the NIT. Where they deserved to be after the season they had and the way they played tonight.

And from the pages of 'Who the Hell Cares', UVa beats St. Johns and advances to the final 8 in the NIT. Will face Iowa next. Woot. Hoos have won 19 straight at home. They definitely should've been an NCAA tournament team over some of the squads we've seen.

Yeah, we should've been in the tournament. Bah.

But Florida Gulf Coast. Unreal.

Yeah, not sure how anyone can argue against automatic qualifiers after tonight. FGCU showing they belong!

Good game, Pete.

Thanks Mike. It's going crazy down here right now. City changed their site to include the "Dunk City" thing. RAP videos, Tshirts, and the schools site crashing 3 times today alone.

I have to admit, they are fun to watch. They have nothing to loose, and having a fun. No matter how they do from here on out, they put their school on the map.

While I agree Mike, I think the team is actually fairly grounded, and it's the fans going ape ****. I will admit it was pretty funny with all the fans chanting F the Gators as ESPN was starting to do their broadcast last night.

FGCU issued a public apology to UF late last night / this morning as it was on the local news.

Haven't watched a single game, but anyone who sees the lowlife Gators for what they are... :thewave:

I was getting pretty embarrassed by Syracuse before the tourny, but at least they redeemed themselves with that defensive show yesterday. Thats how it should have been all season.

Their inconsistency pisses me off!

The Hoosiers never could figure Syracuse's 2-3 zone-too much athleticism on Syracuse's part to cope with. Should be an interesting re-match with Syracuse and Marquette. The Big East athleticism strikes again in their last hurrah-and if Louisville doesn't break their current stride somewhere I don't see anyone playing better than they are right now.

I am, of course, open to surprises.

P.S. somebody please beat Duke.

Louisville, Syracuse, Pitt - welcome to the ACC. :)

In a couple of hours, we'll be down to ten teams and one of them will be Florida Gulf Coast. Do they win tonight and make it to the Elite Eight?

Down goes Kansas.

No teams now from the Mountain and Pacific time zones.

Really impressed with the young men at Florida Gulf Coast. They made a game of it tonight and refused to be blown out. A good run by a good team. These memories that they have created will last a lifetime.

On to the Elite Eight.

One thing to think of, however, is that whoever winds up winning the championship automatically provides an excuse to whoever it was they beat in the round of 64.

"Hey we would have done better but we played the best team in the country in the opening round, so..."

If it's what I think it is, he'll have to wear a leg cast extending from his groin to his ankle for a month.

Then another two to three months of rehab.

He should be back to 80-90% after four months.

The only problem is that this injury is now much more likely to occur again.

Now they are saying it is more serious than what I suffered. I couldn't even watch the play.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Yeah, that is the worst injury I have seen since Joe's - probably more so because we could easily see this one. Still cringing a few hours later.
