I have come around on this one. Originally I said pass. But with his fit in the ZBS, this move would be the least disruptive to the offense.

Yes, there are cap considerations but a few restructures to key players the team intends to keep long-term like Williams and Garçon and the release of Hall should provide enough space.

This team can also consider moves with Moss and Bowen, although I might consider releasing Moss if he won't come down from 4.6 million which has to be one of the largest cap hits in the NFL for a receiver that is not starting.

The difference between these restructures for Williams and Garçon vis a vis what Cerrato did is significant in that these players are still way short of 30 and should see the backend of their deals.

Signing Winston also frees the team up to consider TE in the draft along with the secondary.

Either the return of Davis or the drafting of a playmaking TE limits the value of Moss, whose catches in the main we're ones you see targeted for tight ends on third down and in the red zone.

I agree with restructuring Moss. I dont agree with cutting him. Last year he was a starter for us, and even though he won't get a starting job on another team he brings a lot to our team.

is everyone cool with Trent making 11 mil?

I'm FULLY on board with cutting D Hall. As a matter of fact I would be willing to hand him the paperwork and show him the door.

I think he's the last of the big money rookie deals. I'm certainly not cool with him making that kinda money, but he's a quality left tackle who just came off a probowl so there's that.

IMO he's a prime candidate to become the next left tackle that overprices himself off of the team that drafted him. I don't think he'll fit in every offense though so he could bust somewhere else. Between this and his drug use, he has become a big question mark as far as long term solutions go.

There are only several players we can get significant cap relief from either restructuring or releasing them.

I would restructure these few players but at 34 I would not put any out year money on Moss. That to me is what Cerrato did in the past and we kept 35 and 36 year old vets around because of the money rather than what they are producing.

Restructuring Moss won't help - just pushes the cap hit back a few years. He has to agree to a pay cut, which may only happen if we release him.

Personally I would release him. He would get a 1.25 one year deal in free agency at 34.

With either the return of Davis or the drafting of a pass catching TE, Moss' production would be down in 2013.

I would pay Moss the vet minimum, simply as a slot-receiver/veteran safety valve on a team full of youth.

I really wanna keep Moss around, but like you all, not for the money. Releasing him to resign at an affordable salary make the only sense to me too.

I don't know enough about Winston to justify paying him a bunch of money. We need to protect Robert for years to come so if they think he's the answer, I'm all for it.

Redskins just signed Tony Pashos. Age 32, and coming back from season-ending surgery.

Guess he has a lot in common with a number of other Skins in that regard.

Not much to like about this move. I thought Jordan Black looked good before he got suspended. I guess they figure Pashos can be the swing tackle? Not really sure what to make of this move.

He's been in the league 9 years - I'd worry about the move even if he was coming off a healthy year. This is likely the kind of move we'll see this offseason, because we can't afford to make any moves other than scooping up other team's dregs.

Pretty depressing if you ask me.

VERY depressing. You want to get BETTER in weak areas, not replace one 'placeholder' with another. I have a hard time believing Pashos in ANY kind of improvement over Polumbus. I'm also not comfortable putting all the chips on Compton either. You want to depend on a raw 6th round pick who spent most of last year on the Practice Squad? I sure hope he's more like the second coming of Jon Jansen and not the second coming of Selvish Capers.

Guys...what do you expect? They are basically accepting the $36M penalty with zero fight (unless you count crying about why); they don't have the money to sign anyone except a Tony Pashos. Maybe he will surprise everyone and play well...I'm sure the contract is incentive-laden.

Yep, we don't see us signing anyone of significance this offseason. The cap penalty is killing us. It may be possible to get a corner to replace Hall thanks to the sheer amount of FA DBs, but other than that I think we're going to be relying on the draft.

It's gonna hurt this year.

We are doing well to re-sign the guys we already have.

It sure feels like this is the boat we are rowing at the moment. I have to admit, there is a very tiny part of my mind that still thinks that the lack of outside the team player signings is a sign of something else happening behind the scenes, but that is an errant hope at best (Im becoming an optimist! Who woulda thunk!?)

It's easy to get caught up in the FA rush at the beginning of the signing period....plus as Skins fans we're accustomed to being big players in early FA. The Mara/Goodell cap crap is a huge factor in our silence so far, true. But remember ...

It's March 13.

The season doesn't start for six months. Between now and then we have a full offseason of first-tier FA, second-tier FA, OTA's, the draft, minicamps, training camp, roster cuts ... etc. There will be MILLION moves made around the NFL between now and opening day, and I can flat guarantee that the Redskins will make some of them.

Oh yeah....and last we checked, right up until our QB hurt his knee and tried to play 3/4 of a playoff game on one leg, the Redskins were 10-6, division champs, on a 7-game win streak, hosting said playoff game, up 14-0 and heading up the charts with a bullet.

Point being ... we're a pretty good team. We have six months to adjust and solidify the roster---which for the first timein recent memory is a YOUNG team, building around young rising stars with reasonable expectations of getting better.

No doubt, NOT being ass-****ed by the league would have made things exciting this week, and no one is more coldly enraged about the raw injustice than I. But despite that, truth is I feel pretty good about our team heading into 2013. I think we have a chance, even today, of being a legit playoff contender this year if our franchise QB gets to be a factor early enough. And, I'm VERY excited about where our team appears to be headed beyond 2013.

The league can slow us down for a year, no doubt. But they can't stop the tide from rising.

Oh I agree Om. I think re-signing guys like Paulsen and Young to modest contracts is really more important than making a splash anyway.

And getting Moss to take a pay cut (and NOT restructure to a back-loaded contract, according to Grant Paulsen and Mark Maske) is a very very good sign that this team's mentality both in the front office and with the players is very different than it used to be in a very good way.

I'm just saying that we shouldn't wring our hands if we don't make some 'obvious' signings this year. I just don't think we will be able to.

I posted in BB's thread also, but Andrew Brandt had an interesting tweet yesterday. Can't find it, but essentially he said when he was with the Packers, their strategy was to let everyone else spend the crazy dollars on the first day or two of free agency, and then sift through the rest to find good fits. Better bargains that way...

Agreed, H. I was mostly giving myself a pep talk. As a fan, I need to be reminded from time to time to step off the 24/7 NFL hypercoaster and look at the big picture. :)

I heard him say the same this morning on Ross Tuckers show as well.
