“In my humble opinion, you’re seeing a lack of skill development. We’re not talking about 'Can they do it?’ We’re not saying, 'Can they play?’ But I think that there’s a lost art of people knowing how to teach you how to do what you’re supposed to do,” Green said before Sunday’s game. “I think that the league lacks that, and in my opinion that’s what they’re lacking here. I know some of these kids, and I know that they can do it. But when I watch, I go 'Wow, he doesn’t even know.’”

Asked if that meant the problem fell on defensive coordinator Jim Haslett and defensive backs coach Raheem Morris, Green deflected.

“I don’t know where it falls. I’m not going down that road,” he said. “It falls wherever it falls. But it’s still the truth.”

he sould be the db coach ...probly out run them still !

If the man is interested in a coaching job, bring him in. Surely he can't do any worse than our existing coaches.

If i'm not mistaken he was in the running for DB coach, or at least mentioned in the conversation, before Morris got signed. I'd imagine he didnt come here because he didnt want to.... maybe we'll see Morris get promoted and Green come in as DB coach.... who knows?

No reason the think he could coach. Technique was his weak point. What made him the player he was, can't be taught.

Let him prove it at the college level first.

Veteran Redskins cornerback Cedric Griffin did not agree with Green’s assessment.

“I believe coach Raheem Morris is a great coach in this league. That’s why he’s here. He’s been teaching us great techniques, great schemes,” Griffin said. “I’m not really worried about outside sources, to be honest with you, and no one else in this team’s worried about outside sources. We’re doing a great job right now. We’re just giving up a couple plays.”

This statement is kind of scarey... Those few plays have changed the game every time. I like Griffin, and like the fact he's standing up for his coach, but not knowing any better doesn't make the coaches good. Blowing off somebody who defined the term shut down corner, with 7 pro bowls is a bit naive. Sure, it smart to generally ignore stuff in the media, but sometimes you need to really look at where it's coming from before you just dismiss it.

If he thinks they're doing a great job, he may need to see a shrink.

I remember in his last few years, he was basically a coach on the field at least that's what Champ et al. said and we had one of the best secondaries for a long, long time.

Not sure what kind of coach he'd make, but I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I return again to, it can't get any worse, can it?

I think he's too self-centered and self-absorbed to coach.

I'd kill for Deion to come in and coach them up. I know that name isn't popular around here, but he's helped a lot of younger players develop.

Deion? Are you referring to Dione Warwick? Not sure how much help she would be, but I'd rather have her than Sanders. That guy is a joke. Green would be 20x better for any potential job than a guy who is constantly interested in one thing and one thing only: himself.

Develop what? How to over-hype yourself?

I'd take Darrell first. And I don't even want Darrell.

I hate to, but I have to agree with Ax here. I think a lot of truly great players rely on their own natural ability. (And I hate to say "natural." Don't get me wrong, DG worked his ass off. I'm just saying there's no way someone could teach ME to have that kind of speed.) So seeing as a lot of the great ones are blessed with tools that "normal" people don't have, I think it would be tough in most cases for them to coach those mere mortals.

Case in point. Larry Bird was a great player, but not an amazing athlete. I think he was a good coach, because he could teach his players the tools and tricks he used. On the other hand, Michael Jordan was IMO the greatest player of all time. But I do NOT think he'd be a great coach; simply because most people can't do the things he did.

Cedric Griffin and Madieu Williams, both 30 plus, no longer have NFL DB speed.

Whatever techniques can be applied you can't teach talent.

Just like Clinton Portis dropping 15 pounds and coming to camp in better shape in 2010 didn't result in him making the roster or playing in the NFL that year.

At 30 he hit a wall with the cumulative injuries and surgeries and was done.

Griffin after 2 ACL reconstructions has lost more than a step.

Williams and Doughty never had that step to lose.

Wait, DG is too "self-centered & self-absorbed" to coach, yet Meion Sanders is not ???

Do you realize what you're saying here brother ??

Hey, Deion could teach players how to pick teams to sign with on the cusp of making a championship run. He's also skilled at letting the ball bounce off his helmet on return duty. He could easily make Banks twice as exciting to watch...

Green is wrong because the DBs on this team are not rookies or younger players.

Madieu Williams and Cedric Griffin simply have slowed down due to age and injury and can no longer be regular starters or significant contributors at the NFL level.

Hall is 30 and has never been instinctual in coverage. Wilson is 26.

Reed Doughty is 29 and like Williams and Griffin is slow as molasses.

I don't see where coaching is going to help these players.

I do. Deion certainly loves a camera, but he's helped a lot of players too. He seems to invest a lot of time into players that ask for his help. Not only does he get on the field with them, but he also attends practices, and keeps in phone contact too.

D Green? Not so much.

yeah, he did a great job with Dez Bryant.

ask Champ Bailey how and if Green helped him.

Champ and Green played together.

I'm talking about actually going out of one's way, to train and coach people 20 years younger.

There are few, if any players at all that help and teach as many football players as Deion does.

I can't think of one that even comes close.

that's not coaching, it's mentoring, and there's a difference. They CAN be one in the same, but it's not necessarily the rule.

Deion Sanders was nowhere NEAR technically sound, he was just extremely fast and had the ability to make up ground. This doesn't mean he can be a coach.

Darrell Green taught Champ Bailey ON THE FIELD, which is what a coaches job is... teaching technique and getting them better on the field. Come on dude. I dont want a guy who can hold a troubled players hand, in charge of making them a better football player. Better person? Sure, but a defensive backs coach teaches players how to be better defensive backs.... period.
