With Clinton Portis retiring and Chris Cooley getting released 2 great Redskins of the Post Joe Gibbs I Era are no longer with the Burgundy and Gold. This makes me think who was the best Redskins Player of the Post Gibbs I Era?

In order to be on this pole the player could not over been a Gibbs Holdover in the Norv Turner Era so no Darrell Green and Brian Mitchell but you can be on the team during the Gibbs II Era, which all of these players are.

Jon Jansen

Chris Samuels

LaVar Arrington

Clinton Portis

Sean Taylor

Chris Cooley

Santana Moss

London Fletcher

I voted london fletcher.

Sean Taylor was my favorite player of all time. His death hit me very hard; i went to redskins part for the vigil. But he simply wasn't with us long enough.

Chris Sammuels would have been a close second for me. Then Cooley.

Well there were a few good ones from the Turner Era.

Ken Harvey
Terry Allen
Stephen Davis

Thats off the top of my head. There.might be one or two more.

EDIT: Of them all, I'd have to say Sean Taylor. Portis would be a close second. Followed by Samuels.

London has been great for us the past few years, but he's got a ring from St. Louis and played for Buffalo as well, so his greatness is not just as a Redskin.

Sean Taylor wasn't around long enough.

Henry added a couple of good ones as well. Henry Ellard was another one from the Norv Turner era, but again I think most of his "great" play came as a Ram before he joined the 'skins.

I went with Chris Samuels, drafted by us, pro bowler, absolute good character guy.

Chris Samuels. He handled a lot of classless stuff at Redskins Park with class and fine performances.

It very easily could have been Sean Taylorif he had lived.

I don't think there was a better all around athlete for the game of football than Taylor.

He was born to play the game.

This was a tough one, but I'm going to give the nod to London Fletcher.

Here's why, Samuels and Portis were better players, but the question was who was the greatest Redskins. And that to me means excellence on and off the field. London, besides being a stellar player on the field, has been an exemplary leader in the locker room, a mentor to the younger players, a pillar in his community. To a level that neither Portis nor Samuels (nor anyone else on this list) ever took it.

And now he gets to hopefully be a bridge to a new generation of greatness for this franchise.

When you ask who was the best player I'd probably say Chris Samuels. But who was the best "Redskin" and everything that means (to teammates, to fans, to the community), it's London Fletcher.

I voted for London as well-The Squire said it very well in terms of "the best Redskin."

I doubt if there's an HC in the NFL who wouldn't absolutely love to have a London Fletcher on his team.

I voted for Samuels. Everyone makes great points in this thread, but I gave the nod to Samuels for being a lifelong Skin. I know its not London's fault he wasn't drafted/signed by the Redskins until later in his career, but I still gave that some thought.

I went with Samuels. My heart wanted to go with Cooley but I'm think that is just the emotion of the events of the week speaking. Not that Cooley isn't a worthy candidate, he is, and given a couple of years to look back on this, I might vote for him over Samuels.

Taylor would have been the choice without question had he lived.

Clinton Portis. He took abuse as a top notch runner, and one of the greatest blockers we've ever had - something he doesn't get nearly enough credit for.

If there was a statistic for assists in the NFL, where a blocker turned a nothing play into a big play or a TD, Clinton was our John Stockton.

The problem with lists like this is that people vote with their emotions or their recent memory, which alters the vote a lot. Sean Taylor was great, my all time favorite, but not with us long enough for consideration in my opinion.

And those who bash Arrington, as big of an ass as he has become and tarnished his reputation, he was one of the greatest players we've ever had.
