LOL, Curling is a glorified bar game! I think that's probably exactly how it started - some Canadians got hammered, went outside, and started playing shuffleboard on a frozen lake. Ha!

NBC's coverage in general has been awful.

I have to disagree. NBC is in business to make money and, if the ratings are any indication, they are doing just that. Paying the kind of money they pay, in an instant information age, where the outcome is known hours beforehand for every games outside the US, I think they do pretty darn good job.

And this year they offering so many viewing options it isn't funny.

This was his last individual event today. He has two more relay events, I believe. The US is favored in both.

I think the coverage itself has been fine - the quality of the commentators though HAS been awful in my opinion. I have never heard more mindless, vacuous drivel during a high profile event ever. Really bad.

Fortunately, the Olympics really doesn't need a running narrative to be compelling TV.

Neo: my problem with NBC is their manipulation of the events in an effort to create more drama. i'd rather them show/tell us what is actually going on, not hiding key details or leaving out events because they somehow give away the ending or make it clear that the gold medal has already been earned. in spite of all that, they have no trouble promoing their morning news show in a way to give away an event. all-in-all it's just terrible in my opinion.

their commentary is awful, but i can live with that. i do agree that they've done an amazing job in the ways they deliver the content (web, live, prime time reruns, etc), and the production quality is top notch.

maybe i'm just too picky

on a side note, gymnastics has been ruined for me i love that part of the summer olympics because I think what those girls do is absolutely amazing. but the way they covered it made me feel like i was watching episodes of the kardashians. someone on 106.7 the fan this morning was discussing this, and basically said that if you're a through-and-through sports fan it's probably because you're interested in the competition aspect of it; you want to see the events. but they seem to be catering to the people who care about sports for 2 weeks every 2 years during the olympics, hence all the back stories, pointless interviews, and over the top hype.

i guess neo is right, they paid all that money for the rights they can do what they want with it.

Also, I'm getting more and more pissed at NBC's coverage. There's no reason they couldn't show the major events live yesterday. I understand holding off until prime time on weekdays, but on the weekend there is no excuse.

There is every reason, ren. Every single one of my friends had plans on Saturday and Sunday during the day this weekend. It is a beautiful weekend, for that it was pretty hot here, so NO ONE was home to watch squat. Oh sure, some folks watched. We had the TV on here from 9am until midnight and it stayed on Olympic coverage the whole time but we were the only people I know like that.

People are at the pool, playing golf, riding bikes or horses. Dude, it is summer time and the ratings are to be had at night, even on the weekends.

USA soccer women win 4-3 against Canada in 2OT. Alex Morgan with the header to win it just before the final whistle. Shades of Abby and Brazil. Awesome!

Just saw the Brits went 1 and 3 in the men's triathlon. Pretty impressive considering when I was leaving this morning the announcers were saying the guy who eventually ended up 3rd was going to have to serve a 15 second penalty for mounting his bike too early.

Aly Raisman took gold & bronze in the floor and beam individual competitions to become the most decorated female gymnast of these games. She absolutely nailed the floor exercise, and became the first US woman ever to win gold in that event! Congrats, Aly!
