Fine, Upstanding Citizen Brandon Meriweather...

I don't get some of the comments in this thread. We put a franchise tag on a dope head who's one strike from being thrown out of the league and nobody says a word. Then people going to bitch about this.

We're still the same ole redskins, make no mistake about it.

Fred Davis was the best offensive weapon we had last year. Meriweather is an okay safety. I'm willing to tolerate a little reefer as long as he doesn't go driving.

Yeah the driving thing does it for me. Who among us hasn't had a few too many one time or another? But to then drive? That shows incredibly poor judgment and/or arrogance, which is not a trait I am interested in having around our new QB, for one. Poor judgment as a whole is something I have a hard time tolerating, which is why I still am not crazy we dealt with Sleepy and Dopey the way we did.

also quite a few people voiced concern and quested the intelligence in giving fred davis a new contract. likewise people pointed out that to just let him walk to another team was unacceptable as well.

franchising him for one year was the best move the redskins could make given the position they were put in. i don't think saying 'noone says a word' is an accurate description for how that all went down.

bottom lime is we need more people like london fletcher and rg3 - people who recognize it's an opportunity to play in the NFL not a privilege. people who take their job, and the task of getting better at it, seriously. not people who drive home form the clubs at 2am mid week while under the influence of some substance.

Hey! It's almost noon.

Braindead Meriweather hasn't been cut YET!!!

BB, what's the word man?

We just gave him $3.5M in bonus that we don't want to accelerate toward 2012 alone.

My guess is we cut him June 1 to spread it out.

Halsell said on ESPN that $1.5M is contingent on him making the opening day roster.

So there is time to deal with him.

We don't have to interrupt our draft and focus on a non-entity like Meriweather right now.

Does anyone else want Bruce and Mike focused on Meriweather at the moment?

Meriweather is going to be in training camp. I doubt they get rid of him in light of our safety situation.

Jackson is likely the starter, but he is still rehabbing if I remember correctly. Williams is probably not starting material.

We will likely draft someone later... who knows? Brandon Taylor should be available at our 3rd round pick and we do move on, but I doubt that. We have to get a CB or quality O-lineman with that 3rd.

Exactly - another great point. Franchising him was the only move to make.

If we didn't have personal conduct "outs" written into his contract, we deserve every ****ed up, team embarrassing action the loser takes.

My hope is we're just going over it with the union right now so they have no gripes with throwing his dumb ass back on the street.

I just don't understand why these guys, these MILLIONAIRES, don't take a G-D taxi!

Haven't heard anything - I was at the rehab center all morning long.

My guess is that Coach Shanahan gets a hold of him and goes a bit postal. It will work out in our favor.

well, Meriweather had some incidents in NE which alleged anger management issues and domestic problems. now we know that alcohol is also a factor.

At this point his $3M bonus for 2012 is the only reason he is still on the roster.

For all those that love the cap and parity in the NFL, I have consistently hated it because it puts a higher value on a player's contract than on his playing ability.

In the perverted NBA players with bad contracts are now traded like a deck of cards.

I am surprised the Redskins were not able to find out more about Meriweather and especially why he failed so miserably in Chicago.

He lost his starting job after 3 or 4 weeks??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't that a danger signal?

You raise good and relevant points regarding Merriweather's character issues but my understanding is that his poor play in Chicago had more to do with the system they ran rather than his ability (and furthermore, that the system in NE where he was successful is somewhat similar to our own)

Quotes from Shanny

I think Brandon Meriweather, you know, ran a system in New England that is very similar to what we’re doing and in Chicago it was a lot different than what he has done in the past, with more of a two-deep structure and three-deep. So, I think he fits in our system a lot better than he did in Chicago and I can see that on the practice field.

On Brandon Meriweather’s legal issue in April:
“I talked to him about that situation. Obviously, it will remain with us. These players represent not only themselves but our organization. And we want people to handle themselves the right way, and if they don’t handle themselves the right way, they make too many mistakes, they won’t be with us. You know, we give people chances, but we go into detail what we expect of them, on and off the football field. And if we feel like, if they behave themselves the right way, they stay. But if not, we go in a different direction. That’s why you’ve got to have some depth.”

Todays quotes

A bit of a vague statement there, that's open to multiple interpretations.
What exactly is he saying there ? That the issue will be handled internally, and they don't want to publicize it ?

From where I stand, that's exactly what he means. Aint nobodies business but their own....

That's all fine and good. Meriweather would still be back in the unemployment line if it were up to me.

How many "Dumb as a brick" guys can a team handle?

Davis, and Williams, our two retards is bad enough. Now this asshole. Didn't T-Jackson have issues in Tampa? I'm sure I've blocked out some other knucklehead as well.

Discipline my ass.

Yep, Jackson was suspended from the league twice for substance abuse, the 2nd time for an entire year. Then he failed a physical by the Bucs, which led to his release.
Our secondary is full of winners
