After watching the replay of RGIII’s TD pass to beat Oklahoma from this past season, I had to post this video. Yes, I will talk about scheme here, but this is more about Griffin’s abilities in the pocket and the intangibles he brings to the QB position because of his unique skill set. And I do believe there is plenty to look at here when you break down the game situation and the throw to beat a Top 5 team.

Yeah, that one play shows more about RGIII than anything else. So good, all around!

I think those are the easy, lazy comparisons for the media to make, simply because of race. But looking at the breakdowns I've seen, I still think a more complete comparison may be Steve Young, which would be just fine in my books. :)

With you on the Vick comparison, but not so much the Young. I had the privilege of seeing every play of Vick's college career, and marveled at his physical skills. RG3 has those, PLUS two things Michael does not, 1) touch and accuracy, and even more importantly, 2) smarts.

Young? Hey, every time I hear his name mentioned in the same breath with RG3 I just smile. In my years of watching football, he is the best combination of physical skills--passing and running--and smarts I've seen. If we're getting a latter-day version of Steve Young, we're in for a very interesting ride indeed. :)

EXACTLY. "Oh, let's compare RGIII to the other black guys." So lazy! Kind of like comparisons to Warren Moon by certain members here.

I'm with you on Steve Young being the closest comparison - Young had a big arm and was primarily a pocket passer - but he could hurt you with his legs if necessary. The crazy thing is, RGIII is probably 10x the athlete Steve Young ever was!
 
Actually, my reference was to Vince Young in terms of it being an inaccurate comparison. I see elements of both Elway and Steve Young in RGIII-not an unpleasant thing to contemplate IMO. :yes:
