Well, we lost the #2 this year and there is no first for the next two years. That's a big loss as those could be three starting players for us who are solid blue chip prospects.

Yes, we have middle and as usual a bevy of late round picks but the Redskins War Room has not imitated Beathard in recent years and found a Dexter in Round 5 or a Darryl Grant in Round 9.

We have picked up some depth players, but not the Garcons and Morgans (both sixth rounders) that we are now paying top dollar for in free agency.

They found Hankerson, Riley, Gomes, Paul, Robinson - all who have shown a lot of promise - in the middle rounds. They found Hurt & Neild in the 7th round, both who have shown they can play at this level. You can't compare these Redskins to the Snyderatto Redskins.

Lol, you are just negative to be negative. You have no idea about those guys until they do something, just like the rest of us. Robinson was getting attention from other teams, which is why he was brought up from the practice squad. The staff has been raving about Niles Paul; I think he will do some things this year. Gomes is also talented; they had the opportunity to trade him and re-sign LaRon, and they did not.

Say what you want about Hurt, but he was an out-of-shape guy that most said should have gone undrafted, but he stepped in and played well on OL. Jury is probably still out on Nield, but as 7th rounders, neither were supposed to be world-beaters.
 
Gomes is decent, but he didnt do much I am willing to cut him some slack as he was a rookie. Robinson did nothing hence practice squad, if he was good he would have been playing last year. Paul is going to be a standout special teamer but until he starts catching balls I am not going to get excited.

Hurt didnt play "really well" he played terribly early on and because we had nobody else, he played his way into shape and played ADEQUATELY later in the year. Neild is a depth guy who I cheer for because he is an all out effort kid but aside from his early burst didnt do much and is another guy who played because we didnt have anyone else.

Hank was starting to show before he got hurt I hope he is a guy who can come back quick we have been snakebit drafting wideouts, Riley stepped up towards the middle and end of the year, he was a solid find.
 
Well, in fairness to Paul, you have to throw balls to him before he can catch them. Just sayin'.
 
Probably some truth to that too, Ryman.

I don't have the stats handy but I seem to remember he was used in the offense more on running plays though because he was deemed the best blocker in the WR corp. Of course, coming from Nebraska, one would expect he could block.

I agree with Ryman that there is a difference between a sixth rounder making your team and covering kicks and doing as Garcon did for the Colts in stepping in for injured players and starting a season worth of games and a Super Bowl.

What we have not had here is that middle to late pick that has become that bargain star that puts up top numbers on a cheap entry level deal.

Teams like the Steelers, Packers and Giants find these kinds of players.

Where is our Victor Cruz or Marques Colston?

Well, Victor Cruz took a little while to stay healthy and develop, Colston is one of the few players in recent memory drafted that late who came in and was a star immediately. And he had the help of a QB generally considered top 3 in the league while doing it.

Be patient. We may have this star on the team already, or may be drafting him in April. RG3 is going to make a whole lot of people look a whole lot better, I think.

You do realize Garcon started out simply making the team and returning kicks, right? It's kind of unfair to suggest our rookies should be as productive as Garcon is now, when Garcon had 4 catches for 23 yards his rookie season.

Same with Cruz, who had 0 catches for 0 yards his rookie season.

I suppose it's dissappointing none of our 6th or 7th rounders became instant pro-bowlers, but the phenomenon isn't as common as some of you are making it out to be, not even for the Giants, Steelers, Saint, Packers and other teams with elite QBs under center.
 
You're all ignoring the 500-lb gorilla in the room - Garçon had PEYTON MANNING throwing him the ball, and Marques Colston had DREW BREES throwing him the ball. Niles Paul had Rex Grossman and John Beck.

Its not hard to see why the odds were stacked against him compared to the other two guys.
 
And Robinson was promoted from the practice squad, BECAUSE OTHER TEAMS WANTED TO SIGN HIM. I don't think he would have garnered interest if he was as terrible as Ryman and BT want to claim.

640 rushing yards. Three 100 yard games in 5 starts.
49 receptions for 379 yards.

Pencilled in as our starter this year.

Does this guy not count?

No, because he was a promising 4th-rounder. Only the ****ty/unproven ones count. ;)
 
But Bulldog's point isn't that we haven't found a late round WR superstar, Lanky. It is that we really don't have any late round guys that we can point to as great in recent history. And by recent I mean the last 20 years or so. I am not counting last years bunch as this FO is pretty much completely different from previous crews.

With the exception of Cartwright and Sage Rosenfels, I can't think of any late round guys off hand who are even still in the league from before Gibbs return. Golston and Doughty are the only late rounders left in the league from the Gibbs years and most here would say they are solid depth guys, at best.

The best late round guys we had in the 90s were Gus Frerotte, Frank Wycheck and Keenan McCardell. All those guys played their best ball somewhere else.

What Bulldog is talking about is all the late round guys who were household names for this team for years that we all still remember. Guys like Raliegh McKenzie (11th), Terry Orr (8th), Kurt Gouveia (8th), Barry Wilburn (8th), Charlie Brown (8th), Darryl Grant (9th), Clint Didier (12th) and Monte Coleman (11th). You can nearly make a solid team out of guys drafted by Beathard in rounds that don't even exist today. And that is without bringing up guys like Dexter Manley (5th) and Mark Rypien (6th) who got drafted in what we now think of as the late rounds.

Hell, Joe Jacoby was an undrafted FA.
 
LL said what I was getting ready to....other teams that find these "gem" WR's in the mid and late rounds tend to have one thing in common. A professional QB. We'll begin to really find out what the Redskins have at WR once we finally secure someone qualified to throw them the damn ball.
 
Neo, that's great and all, but you can't compare the debacle of 1992 - 2009 to the 2010-2011 Redskins; you just can't. There are professionals in charge now.

I don't think people grasp just how bad Vinny Cerrato was. Casserly was almost as terrible. You can't use their terrible draft picks as evidence that we "never" find them - totally different set of people making the picks now.
