Well that puts a different twist on his recovery.

Samuel visited noted surgeon Dr. William Meyers, who performed the initial core muscle surgery in June, several times. After Meyers recommended that Samuel rest to let the injury calm down, Samuel returned to Philadelphia to visit him last week. Following an MRI, Samuel received the injection.

This article also speculates that both Thomas and Samuel will play Monday Night....

So either Samuel or the team rushed him into too much work too soon..........So can we learn and not expect Chase back by pre-season? Different circumstance, different positions but I feel like we're becoming a team without patience........disclaimer, this coming from a guy whose like an out of work doctor....no patients

Rivera was pretty adamant that the team had rushed Samuel back too quickly. That's pretty obvious given the result of that, but he did seem to 'own' that the decision was the team's decision and in retrospect not a very smart one. Hopefully they learned from that and will be extra cautious with Young.

The way I've always understood it is that Core Muscles are very finicky. They can be very painful, have prolonged recovery, and the risks of injury during recovery are high. A quick google search shows the anticpated recovery time from a core muscle surgery of 3-8 weeks. Now that's probably for the normal human to get back to 'normal' life, and not an elite athelete playing professional sports, but the broad range tells you everything you need to know. It's an inexact science with a ton of factors...
