I'd be willing to take a conditional 7th round pick for him, meaning we get NOTHING unless he makes the Pro Bowl, if it meant he ended up on a team outside our division and especially on the West Coast.

McD, there was a time when I agreed with your stance, but now I think we just need to cut him loose and be done with him. Regardless of who's fault it is, it seems pretty clear that unless Alberto comes in and prostrates himself before Shanny, I don't see how their working relationship can work. So be rid of the distraction. I echo Jimbo's sentiment, if we can determine where he goes, take whatever pittance some team will give us.
As for other players getting the idea that DC is their big payday, well that idea has been around for 12 years now, hasn't it? Besides which, in this case, given the amount of locker room grumblings we heard about Fat Al, I'm thinking word probably got around the league about him and players probably have an understanding of the situation.
Given the way Shanny mishandled Fat Al and McNabb, I would be more concerned about our perception around the league as a landing spot for players due to that, than anything else.

You can bring up the one real questionable guy he brought in, I'll give you that, but you still can't argue the work ethic he insists on from his players.
Not sure what happened to him, but he was drafted, signed a contract, and cut before the season started. So, while Shanny did take a chance on drafting a questionable player late in the third round, he didn't put up with the BS long. He was over weight, and completely out of shape, and had a few incidents with the coaches.
It seems that Shanny is open to dealing with conditioning situations, but will not put up with a player who openly goes against the coaches.
It's funny, lots of folks see us taking a certain QB that has a bit of the same type of baggage as Clarette. Gonna be interesting to see how it plays out.

The Eagles aren't going to give the Redskins the sweat off their proverbial brows (or insert other word here ).
Philly if they are interested will probably only offer back to the Redskins the #4 pick that came as the second installment of the McNabb trade or even a #5 pick.
If Detroit or another club matches the #5 and the Redskins seem likely to trade him out of division for the same round pick, then Philly may step up and make it the #4 or perhaps a #5 and a #6.
But Washington is NOT going to get rich off the Eagles.
The Eagles have been picking the Redskins pockets for the past 15 years.
They draft and play Trotter and he makes the pro bowl, then he comes here on a fat contract, does little and then gets released, then goes back to Philly and makes the pro bowl again
The Eagles are looking for a young DT so they wait until the Redskins who have a greater need release Antonio Dixon to put him on the practice squad. The Eagles put him on their regular roster.
So, Anthony Montgomery was worth that much to keep? Evidently, not.
Then of course there is the fleecing of that #37 overall pick for the 33/34 year old McNabb.
Nobody else was offering above a #3 for McNabb but the Redskins ended up giving the Eagles not only a #2 but also a conditional #3/#4.
I had thought the age of the Redskins bidding against themselves for guys like Laveranues Coles was over. Remember when Snyder offered him $13M in guaranteed money when no one else including the Jets was offering him more than $9M?
But evidently we still have some final hiccups to get out of our collective system on the personnel side.
