Who will we target in free agency before the regular season arrives? Who will we re-sign? Who will we not re-sign? Who will get released? Feel free to offer your opinions and predictions.

We take the latest chatter from Redskins Park and media pundits as BBQ tries to formulate what could happen in the coming days, weeks and months.

Possible Free Agent Targets
We are bringing back this feature for 2020 and BBQ has enlisted the help of several Redskins pundits as well as input from yours truly. We have three people who have contributed thus far – Ian Cummings of Riggo’s Rag, Nathan Britton of Riggo’s Rag, and Mark Tyler of Hogs Haven. Obviously, the Redskins simply can’t sign all of these players. This list is simply some players who could fill a need and possibly be available in March.

Off-Season Updates
The Redskins cap room currently stands somewhere between $61M and $66M for 2020. Releases and re-structures (if they occur) could continue to increase the cap room considerably.

The Trent Williams saga is coming at us with all kinds of news and it is difficult to know what is true and untrue. Stay tuned.

We still know absolutely nothing about Alex Smith, but he wants to continue his playing career. Will he be ready for the 2020 season? Is his career over? Will he retire? Will he give the Redskins any cap relief? No one knows, but we’ll stay on top of it.

The injury to Reuben Foster is much more serious than previously known. It is unlikely he plays in 2020.

With Quinton Dunbar poised to not participate in OTAs unless he receives a new contract, it is too early to know what may happen with this development.

Bryce Love, Jordan Brailford, and Caleb Wilson are hoping to see action on the football field for the first time in their Redskins careers. Love could be in line for a lot of quality playing time. Brailford and Wilson have uphill climbs to make the final roster of fifty-three.

On the first page of this offseason thread and the second entry, we have the latest updates on coaching hires and football front office positions being filled. That entry will be updated as needed.

Personal Thoughts
Here are some players that must have a superb offseason if they hope to be on the roster this fall according to BBQ: CB Greg Stroman, FS/ST Troy Apke, OT Morgan Moses, TE Jeremy Sprinkle, CB Fabian Moreau, OT Geron Christian, WR Trey Quinn, and ILB Josh Harvey-Clemons.

BBQ believes these are the names to watch in Redskins free agency: Tre Boston, James Bradberry, Austin Hooper, and Kendall Fuller. BBQ prefers all but Hooper – Hollister and/or Jarwin is preferred.

With Ron Rivera as the coach, look for a more disciplined team and a locker room that has more accountability. It sounds like the “luxury resort” atmosphere is a thing of the past.

In Conclusion
The free agency updates will continue as new information is available.

Why not Austin Hooper BB - too pricey or do you have other reservations?

He will be too costly and Hollister and/or Jarwin are better options for the money.

Those two guys are bottom tier TEs though. Young but neither is close to being an NFL starter, right? Maybe it’s just me, but if there’s one oosition this offseason I feel like it’s worth overspending on, it’s tight end. Firstly, I feel like Haskins desperately needs a reliable safety outlet. And we haven’t had a TE we could rely on to be productive in forever. Vernon had some moments, but you know what I mean. We have a ton of money. If we can’t get a top tier TE in free agency I’d rather we draft the best one available even if we have to trade up to get him, rather than settling for a JAG.

Hollister would be the choice. He came on strong in the latter half of the season. Jarwin is loaded with potential and has flashed some of it at times.

I would bring Hale Hentges back - he played well down the stretch. Colts fans were rather angry when he was waived and the Redskins claimed him. The Colts were hoping to stash him on the practice squad.
