(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

Yes! A step in the right direction. Hey Harris! Was that so hard?

    Best concert you've ever attended?

This ^ It was a great time. There was something for everybody: Punk, Blues, New Wave, Country, Rockabilly, etc, etc. It was like San Francisco in 1967 or Seattle in 1990- just more varied. And at the same time the Skins were dominant. The Golden Age of DC. Well the years is rolling by Heavy...

    Best concert you've ever attended?

Too many to name. Seeing the Stones from that 3rd row in 1981 at the Capital Centre was fantastic. Those Beach Boys Mall gigs were loads of fun. Frank Zappa from the 2nd row at the Warner Theater. The Ramones at my college gym. Randy Newman at the Library of Congress. Numerous Allman Bros and...

    The Stadium Thread

Which is why Harris & Co are including the sweeteners like affordable housing. As for JKC/DC, I can see both sides. JKC was offering to pay the tab for a stadium that was to continue housing a then impressive franchise. But he also wanted to use part of the Langston golf course. He was a man...

    The forgotten Redskins owner....

It may also have had something to do with the NFL not allowing him to fully own the Lakers/Kings as well as the Redskins. Of course, nowadays that is not an issue. Again my memory is vague, but it is in the Thomas book about EBW.

    The forgotten Redskins owner....

My memory is vague, but Cooke was minority owner of the Skins while he owned the LA Lakers, Kings, and the Forum. He was Josh Harris before Josh Harris.

    The Stadium Thread

You answered your own question- political fluff. Affordable housing is a sweetener to get the deal passed. DC is a city permanently in state of distress. Such a large expenditure is going to make anyone take pause. The NFL and MLB are 104 and 146 years old, respectively. Teams have moved around...

    The forgotten Redskins owner....

Allen's "Future is Now" yielded dividends. We made the playoffs several years in a row including an appearance in the Super Bowl. George Allen is in the HOF. But .... "Future is Now" left the cupboard bare for the great Jack Pardee. The Over the Hill Gang was truly over the hill. Still, Jack...

    The forgotten Redskins owner....

EBW was a fascinating person, in more ways than one. The Evan Thomas book is a very good read and I highly recommend it. I do not recall much from his time as owner as little kids tend not to notice that kind of thing. Plus he was fairly low key as opposed to Marshall and Cooke. But I do...

(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

Me too. I am still astounded that Snyder kept digging himself a deeper hole. Nobody could talk sense into him. But he's gone, thank God.

(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

As the population grows, who knows? Of course it's only a "what if", but I doubt the NFL would want the nation's capital to be without an NFL team.

The 'W' - Hot or Not?

I think you are quite correct about the Redskins name coming back. Never thought that was going to happen. I think the Commanders name could be ditched with ease IF the fanbase spoke loudly and with one voice. But we don't. Everybody wants a different name. The only name everyone agrees with is...

The 'W' - Hot or Not?

I would prefer a block W like the Nats used (and actually still use) in the 1950s.

(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

True, but I think we would have ended up in the same place. If Baltimore and Cleveland could reclaim NFL teams, the DMV certainly would as well. We would have been first in line for an expansion team and would be discussing the uniform colors and the name as we are now. Or, I can imagine a...

(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

Oh ... yea. Bought my Ramones t shirt there. Good name for a sideline mascot. Then again it might look like Barney leading the cheers.

(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

I think you are right. I would go further and state that I honestly do not think that many people were ever offended in the first place.

(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

I do the same thing. Recently we had departmental retreat at my office. Two days of lectures and fun. Lots of folks from our out of state offices (i.e. young women). Most are fascinated to be in DC and would ask me all kinds of questions. Several times, the Skins came up and I prefaced it by...

(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

RedSomething. Redwolves, Redhawks, Red Storm, Red Raiders, Red Whatever. I was astounded that Snyder did not read the tea leaves, realize the momentum was growing, and get a Plan B ready just in case. Instead he did what he always would do. He fumed, whined, sputtered, and ultimately green...

(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

As do I. And what choice do I have? I was never given any evidence or sound reasoning as to why Redskins was offensive. Had that been made clear, I would have applauded a (sensible) name change. And Commanders is lame. Redskins or Skins, the unofficial nickname of the Washington Commanders.
