  1. Statement by NFL Spokesperson

Do we know what the substance was? If he is recovering, pain-killers and healing agents might be involved. Yes, it would be a violation of NFL rules, but the NFL really needs to make exceptions for situations like this. Is he actually abusing a substance, or is he just trying to heal & didn't...

Another thing that needs to be said... A lot of the reason you see QBs getting more than $40M guaranteed is because the cost to franchise a QB two consecutive seasons has been about $45M, but is going to balloon to over $50M. If a team tags a player twice, the cost is %120 percent of the...
  3. Joe Barry Report Card

We've been inconsistent all year, but overall everyone gets good grades for being "not Haslett"...

Probably not at $16M though, and I think there will be a fair market for Robert in the offseason. Even with his problems, Houston and potentially Denver could come calling. While I like Robert, I doubt we get into a bidding war for his services... and I think we're going to release him. The...

I'm sorry I didn't see this yesterday... Just want to add a few caveats based on my understanding. There are two options with Franchise Tag: 1) Exclusive - which means you own the player's rights and they can negotiate a long-term deal only with you. 2) Non-Exclusive - which means other teams...

Halsell says: 1) QB Scarcity makes it likely Redskins choose to resign him 2) It gets more expensive to sign him the later they wait 3) Familiarity with system makes Cousins more forgiving of Redskins/RGIII issues 4) I missed what he said here... 5) Pay him lucratively, but with ability to get...

JI Halsell on ESPN980 right now (1PM EST)... Not sure what he is going to say, but I respect his take on Cousins extension and salary cap... He is a good follow on twitter & has the financials down. I may change my view on this based on what he says, but I'd be surprised if he has something...

Don't forget Denver... Kubiak is there & Cousins/RGIII both familiar with the system. RGIII would love this opportunity, since he grew up a Broncos fan. I'm pretty sure Cousins wouldn't mind throwing to those WRs on a winner. Osweiler in final year of his contract. I don't believe Cutler is...

I laid this out in another post, but he'll likely get signed in the offseason... and if the Redskins aren't willing to guarantee him ~$20M in the first year of his contract, then he'll likely be signed somewhere after March 7th (last day to designate a player with a transition/franchise tag)...

If you're saying it "proves nothing", essentially you are the one who is dismissing it. I'm simply making others aware that Geno Smith, Ryan Tannehill, Nick Foles, and... yes... Robert Griffin III also have achieved this. Regardless, I believe we have no argument... I'm looking forward to...

I totally agree... I'd rather take another year to figure out what you have and paying a premium (tag) than lock in now at a lower rate. Unless you can work a Foles length deal (2 years)... Worst situation would be what they have in Miami, and he is a better QB, IMO (Oh, and he also had a...

It could be right. Our YPA is low too... I'm pretty sure YAC is improved considerably after last game. One game improved Cousins' YPA on the season by .5 (mostly due to YAC). What I saw last week is that we were getting low YPA & low YAC as teams were mostly giving us the short passes and...

You know who else threw for 350+ yards and had a perfect passer rating last year? Geno Smith, last game of season against Dolphins... Nick Foles had one in 2013 with like 400+ yards against the Raiders... Where are you getting the stat about "13 times?" I think that sounds pretty low.
  14. Kirk Cousins Development Tracker

If he goes for that much, you tag him non-exclusive... Let him negotiate his market value while you retain his rights. We should have plenty of cap room next year, so tagging him and releasing Robert isn't out of the question. Transition tag would cost us about $20M for a 1 year move & $24M...

I look forward to seeing the stats then.

Being satisfied with a performance is one thing. I was satisfied with Colt McCoy's performance when he helped defeat the Cowboys last season. I don't necessarily thing he deserves a contract extension. I'm trying to look beyond the performance, which is hard to evaluate against the level of...

Again, the stat I heard was 263 yards of his 324 were YAC. If those numbers are correct, he had one 40 yard pass and a lot of passes that averaged 1-2 yards. Hence, a lot of passes behind the line of scrimmage.

It's funny how people will make light of stats like YPA, YAC, and where a QB ranks among his peers based on last year vs this year... Then they will totally pull out stats like "QB Rating over last 3 games" and made up records like "1st QB to throw for 300 yards and have a rating over 150"...
  19. Kirk Cousins Development Tracker

My thoughts about his development is that he went from a Stafford/Cutler type QB (numbers-wise, with lesser arm strength) to an Alex Smith type QB... Instead of improving what he did well in 2014, he eliminated that completely from his game in order to avoid INTs... That's my biggest problem...
  20. Kirk Cousins Development Tracker

If Cousins is getting all his YAC because he's throwing behind the line of scrimmage, then it isn't a meaningless statistic.
