Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

Benjamin Allbright, who is pretty plugged in, thinks Chris Shula is the frontrunner for the Steelers job. Baltimore I can't see hiring a defensive-minded HC. Buffalo idk. The other vacancies aren't worth it for a second stint as a HC IMO (Cardinals, Browns, Raiders)

The HC Dan Quinn Discussion Thread

You list these reasons as to why Quinn should be fired if 2026 is "bad or even mediocre" but to me, they only apply if the season is bad. My position is that if the season is mediocre - which I define as say 8-9 and barely missing out on a WC spot - but the coordinators show growth and promise...

The HC Dan Quinn Discussion Thread

Jayden will sign a fair market value extension if offered after year 3 because it's too financially risky not to. Especially for a guy who has had a taste of the injury bug. Folks should also keep in mind ownership may want to err on the side of being patient. Not out of blind loyalty to...

David Blough and the Offensive Staffing Thread

Stapleton played in the league for a few years (including as a starter during the Steelers Super Bowl run) and was OL coach at Florida for a few years. Going from Assistant OL coach to OL coach now would be a reasonably-timed promotion for him even setting aside the Blough of it all. In of...

The HC Dan Quinn Discussion Thread

Counterpoint: it doesn't make sense to give Blough a chance if you aren't willing to give him some time **provided** he shows signs of growth and promise. If 2026 is another 5-12 disaster, then yes it's time to clean house. But if it's 7-10 and you see it trending the right way, it would strike...

The HC Dan Quinn Discussion Thread

HC contracts are customarily five years, no? So he would have two more seasons (2026 ad 2027) before AP has to make a decision about extension vs. firing. I think a middling 7-10 season with signs of growth is as low as he can go to get his fourth season. Can say offense under Blough is...

Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

On the surface, I'd rather "buy" Karl Scott than "rent" Flores/McDermott. Meaning let's get a guy who we have conviction will be here for 3 years rather than a one-and-done that puts us back in this position a year from now.

David Blough and the Offensive Staffing Thread

Colt and Ben have no reason to publicly speak about the challenges of the position. They'll talk up their guy and leave it there. I'm sure they're honest in their praise, and Blough may work out great, but of course Ben Johnson isn't going to publicly say it's a daunting job that he might not be...

Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

Pittsburgh had him in the building for a year and they have a tradition of defensive Head Coaches. It would be a natural fit, although they might want to turn the page and pick an offensive guy. Hard to say with these old school organizations moving on from long-tenured "culture-setting" HCs...

For Flores yes, I was thinking of McDermott who obviously is not a candidate for the Bills job. The problem with Flores/McDermott hires is they're likely to be one-and-done. Karl Scott would probably stay for a few years, and the continuity will be important.

Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

Ravens and Steelers are the only "good" HC openings right now IMO. If you're McDermott or Flores and you don't get either one of those jobs, would you really rather land in Tennessee or Vegas or would you wait a year and see if the Bengals job opens up, or another more attractive destination?

Ledford is not a former Quinn assistant. They did not overlap in Atlanta and have not been on the same staff anywhere. He was a player on the 49ers when Quinn was DL coach but that's it.

Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

I mentioned that above and agree. Honestly if I'm DQ I'd probably say it outright to pitch him lol. "Hey man if we don't win this year I'm gone and you could take over a team with Jayden" there's no reason for Quinn to be insecure because he's already on the hot seat. We all know it. He needs...

Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

Set just means not actively looking for a long-term starter. But the uncertainty just furthers my point which is that Flores may not prefer the openings this cycle. It's really Baltimore and a bunch of question marks.

Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

It's not just getting a HC offer, it's getting a HC offer at a team/situation he wants. Of the current openings, only three (Atlanta, Baltimore and Tennessee) are set at the QB position. And of those, Cam Ward and Michael Penix Jr. aren't exactly surefire guys for different reasons. That leaves...

Daronte Jones and the Defensive Staffing Thread

Quinn is on the hot seat no matter what. Flores might be thinking, Washington could have a bad season because the OC has never even been a position coach let alone a playcaller. If that backfires and DQ is shown the door, I'd immediately be the internal front-runner to be HC of a team with a GM...

    The All Things Terry Thread

The Terry issue is overblown because of how bad the rest of the roster has turned out to be. He will have a fine year next year, but beyond that it's unclear what the future holds. I could see AP releasing Terry after 2027 and bringing in Aiyuk TBH.
