Something to consider with free mulch from tree and landscape companies. Mulch from the store is dry wood mulch. You'll be getting green mulch. Stuff straight from the wood chipper. A friend had a shop where the building owner would get about 4 yards of mulch every year to cover most of the yard...

Will you be setting up irrigation for your beds ? We use the rain barrel to a lesser degree, mainly the plants on the lani being we have duel water service. We have normal city water, and then non-potable irrigation water line, which is a small flat fee ( 13.40 ) per month. I have to drag hoses...

Have you ever heard of flame treating (charring ) wood. Not really practical with the scale of your garden. Shou Sugi Ban. Sitting in doctors waiting room, I caught a story on it on one of the home/garden channels a year or so ago. Labor intensive to do initially from the looks of it, but they...

Great Movies That Others Might Enjoy, Or Ones To Avoid

Loved the book. My wife said if she hadn't read the book, she wouldn't have been able to follow the movie. I don't agree with her being she doesn't actually sit and watch a movie without her phone in her face doing something.

It always comes down to how you maintain the machine. I'm going to order an hour meter. This time of year, I cut every 4 days so I expect about 100 hours per year. I have no doubt that the old John Deere likely had over 5K hours, so again, it owed me nothing.

Yes tractors. Worked on enough zero turns to know I don't want one. Tearing up the grass is a big problem in general. I can actually get by with a 30" rear engine rider, but the little machines beat the hell out of my body. Had on for about 10 years. Got a lawn service, who didn't do the best...

I figure at this point in time, new is my best move. So I did basic research / comparison of a few machines all at about the same price point. They all come from the same manufacturer Stanley Black & Decker as 3 different brands.... Craftsman, Cub Cadet, and Troy Bilt. The Cub and Craftsman are...

Finally got to watch Project Hail Mary. I had read the book first, and think they did a fantastic job with producing the movie. I normally do it the other way, movie first, then the book if I like the movie. I think it's difficult to take a very detailed sci-fy, and covey the in a way it's...

Happy Monday.... I'll be spending the day turning my tractor into a pile of scrap metal. So disappointed, you would think a lawn tractor would last more then 38 years.... Engine has multiple internal issues, and not parts available. Had it apart two weeks ago, and thought I would be able to...

Watched a bizarre one last night. Black Moon from 1975. Saw it listed and figured why not... I had the urge to find something else to watch early on, yet couldn't turn away from it which I can't figure out. Here's what Wiki says " Franco-German experimental fantasy horror film" because I sure...

Went to see Pressure last night... actually opens today. Thought it was fairly well done, and portrayed the "players" involved, and situation very well . Of course, if you're not into history, you likely wouldn't be thrilled with it. I'd label it a very good docudrama.

Man, do I need one of those. I'd have one but the city code doesn't allow you to park them in the yard, Yup, I can't keep in on my property unless it's in driveway or the garage... complete joke. I was forced to sell my open trailer when I changed jobs, as I had stored it there. An enclosed...

At a little over a year retired, I'm sleeping a bit later now, generally up between 6 and 7. I had a lot of hobbies / interests, yet for me they just weren't doing it for me. I'm finally came to terms with having to be building or fixing / restoring stuff.. I've spent the week in a 95+ degree...
