David Blough and the Offensive Staffing Thread

Pretty much everyone (including many coaches) still think that for play action to be effective you have to first establish the run. The statistics show that there is no correlation on the success of play action with the success - or even frequency - of your run game. If the effectiveness of play...

Pros and cons to use of motion. If the offense moves, so does the defense - muddies the read for the QB, especially a young QB. I like motion if you can get it done early, allows you to disguise formations, gives you reads on coverages and helps you create matchups. But I don’t like motion late...

Yeah, the lack of activity league wide suggests there is something the league knows that we don’t.

Stefon Diggs is still out there - he had 85 catches for 1,000 yards last season with the Patriots. He’d immediately be our #2 and a chain mover. He had the off field issue and maybe there is more out there we don’t know about. But all things being equal we should be at least looking hard at him.

Both sides here have taken something relatively simple and made messing it up an art form. But more so Aiyuk than the 49ers. I honestly don't care at this point, if they release him at some point (they will) and he signs here (probably still) on a prove it type deal - fine. Whats to lose -...

Crowded in terms of numbers but not quality. We have Terry as the proven Pro Bowl calibre talent, Williams as the intriguing rookie who clearly has upside but has yet to take an NFL snap and then a bunch of JAGs all jostling for WR3 and 4 snaps with not a lot to separate them but a huge gap to...

I argued pre draft that we had arguably the weakest WR room in the league. Certainly bottom 5. Williams is interesting and we might strike gold - but right now lack of weapons outside is still the biggest concern I have about our roster. And I don’t think signing Aiyuk addresses that even if...

Don’t have a concern about change of coordinator and scheme on D. That - along with the infusion of talent - was needed. Plus the Head Coach has a defensive background. We should (must be!) MUCH better on that side of the ball. O is the big question. We have the QB and O’line (with some depth...

Seems easy to resolve for Aiyuk - if he wants to play anywhere in 2026 he just reports and says ‘Your move’ to the 49ers.

Davis and Forbes both looked like reaches at the time - even to us amateurs. Without hindsight many of us were scratching our heads.

Interesting. He’s still clearly got an unrealistic view of his value and also wants a longer term commitment. I get the latter point - he will be 30 before the 2027 season starts and unless they are elite receivers value starts to diminish if their age starts with a 3. Surprised they didn’t...

He only appeared in 2 games last year for them and had 3 combined tackles. So it’s probably not a shock to him!

If this had been me I would have had contingencies ready based on what happened in round 1. What we did from round 3 onwards probably wouldn’t/shouldnt impact our self scout and analysis of areas we need to address/strengthen. Then you push ‘go’ based on what happened.

Dart looks like the jerk jock bully in every 80's High School movie. I find that hard to get past :) More meaningfully he seems to me like the kind of QB who can win you a game - hes a 'gamer' - but wont be consistent enough to win you a Division/championship. Put another way playing with your...

Im remain to be convinced Dart is their long term QB. If he is then I agree - but I think they will be back in the draft a QB pool in a couple of years.
