2026 Commanders Training Camp

Hopefully Stevens can keep it together the rest of camp. I wonder if they'll bring in another kicker just for the sake of pushing him, or give the roster spot for another position.

I know it sounds corny, but I think they also did it to give Moody a shot to latch on somewhere before the season starts... or at least go compete.

Similar to the Biadasz situation, once they've made their mind up, they see no reason to drag things on.
 
The only thing I wanted to see more of was Stephens' kickoffs. His first one landed in the endzone. I'm guessing they've seen him hit into the zone enough in practice to be comfortable with that aspect. That said, I shouldn't complain for getting what I wanted.

The letting Moody go decision is one aimed at gaining a reputation of looking out for players who try to make this team. They could have held him hoping to trade him for a low pick to some team needing a kicker...but more than likely that would have just cost Moody a chance to sign with a team in time to practice eith them before being needed. It would have hurt thr market for his services.

Releasing him now sends a message to future free agents, "Even if it diesnt work, we wont sabotage your potential."
 
Seems like they did the right thing for Moody. Glad to have a kicker with a legit shot at making a 60 yarder. Any nicknames for this kid yet or too soon?

Too soon, but if he gains a reputation for NOT giving me a heart attack by just making gimme kicks up to 45 or so and having a real shot up to 60…I’ll be calling him Even Stevens

Pulling this out of the signings thread

I’m guessing because our backup QB situation is pretty rough/raw, we’re about to spend 70% of the rest of the preseason running the ball on offense. And they want most of the current RB’s on the roster, so they probably wanted to bring in a veteran body to load carries onto in the second half of these games. Reynold also plays ST’s and is a noted good locker room guy if I remember correctly, so he can probably do everything, correctly and without complaint, alongside younger players while they hold back whoever they don’t want to risk in meaningless football the next two weeks, especially game 3.

I think I remember that both Ford and McNichols are hurt. They probably wanted someone to spell Henry and Allen.
 
Still a risky name, it's inviting him to miss on kicks with odd numbers of yards.
 
Why does nobody seem to remember that Craig Reynolds was actually in our training camp before? In 2019 he was a udfa for the skins. I remember liking him. Here we are 7 years later and he's scratched out a living, mostly on the periphery of NFL rosters. Full circle.

That’s funny, I didn’t remember that. I remembered him flashing early on with the Lions because he had some athleticism to him, but he ended up settling into a depth/ST’s role for a long time.
 
More tryouts Monday.




It's clear Peters and Quinn want to see as many bodies as they possibly can this preseason

Part of me really wants to ask, "why now?"

I mean, maybe they need the roster spot and maybe they want to give all the work to Stevens going forward.

But flip side, competition is good so why not wait until at least after the next game to keep the pressure up on the young guy?
