2026 Injury Updates

I'm definitely in favor of a new HC, but we're too far behind in talent.

What exactly is the point of this season? To hope JD5 stays healthy, and continues to develop with a marginal roster around him?

So we can start next season in the exact same position, way behind the top teams in talent, and little chance to catch them? We've been doing that for over 20 years now.

I hope someone in the FO is thinking big picture.

Why do you give the GM a pass after 3 offseasons? If you’re this pessimistic about the roster I mean.

Guys, let’s keep this thread on topic please.

We are not ‘bereft of talent’ - that’s a patently ridiculous statement.

Agreed, though the idea we should trade the franchise quarterback to address this perceived lack of talent is on another level of ridiculous. And I’m the guy who doubts Jayden is going to work out long term due to injuries, but a great quarterback is such a rare commodity you have to play out your hand when you draft one.

Guys, let’s keep this thread on topic please.

Good call, try the “Roster Construction” thread if you want to continue this:

Man, the Tunsil injury is so massive. Can’t leave Coleman on an island, we lose the LT/LG cohesion, and our depth takes a step back. Gonna put more pressure on Blough in terms of giving Coleman help, and more pressure on Conerly to get by without (as much) help. Quite possibly leads to more pass pressure on Daniels, resulting in more scrambles… I’m having visions of the GB game last year. Gotta feel for Blough - he already had a tough assignment as a rookie play caller.

With that said, if I’m trying to look through the lens of “maybe it won’t be so bad?”:
1. We had a potent offense with Coleman starting in ‘24
2. According to Logan, Coleman looked much better playing tackle in ‘25. He and Conerly should be a step up from him as a rookie and Wiley playing RT in ‘24
3. The heavy PA, the shifts and motions, and more condensed formations could/should help slow the pass rush to a degree
4. With Diggs in the fold, and some growth from guys like McCaffrey/Brown/Lane, we have a better group of receivers
5. We have more speed on the field than we did in ‘24 - Chig vs Ertz, Diggs vs Noah Brown, and Bill vs Robinson
6. Daniels is more experienced
7. There’s reason to hope our D helps take some pressure off of Blough (and Daniels)

The Tunsil injury is massive.

The lucky thing about it is it happened at the only position where there is honestly to God true depth, where a starter can fill in for a starter.

Galdi was rattling off Coleman's stats from 2024 this morning. Not half bad, actually. I don't remember exactly what they were, but really not bad.

We can survive with Coleman.

Positive spin:
Tunsil injury sucks.. no doubt, but new O scheme and better offensive weapons that actually scare the D means they cant stack the box against the run like they did last year, should open up better running lanes.
Negative spin:
Of course our O line goes from average to below average. I havent seen anything from Conerly to be excited about so JD will be running for his life again

so hopefully we build a talent roster with no qb and go searching for a qb. then hope that we find a franchise qb and their development peaks at the right time before the "talented" roster we build from trading JD5 ages out. washington has never had an issue with finding a long term franchise qb for long stretches. it also definitely doesn't happen in the NFL. everything always goes according to plan. one in the hand being worth two in the bush is bullshit.

McNichols with a Quad injury - Not a product of today's joint practice

Marcus Mariota - Sparined MCL (Suffered in Preseason game 1 vs Dolphins) - Timetable - UNK at this time

Thanks - I've been off the grid for a few days so was wondering if they'd diagnosed it yet. That's probably good news - depending on the grade of the sprain and assuming it's not something that will require surgery. Hopefully he can just rehab it and even more hopefully, we don't need a back up QB at all in 2026. I think this is a sign though that this should probably be the last season we rely on Mariota and try and come up with a Grecian Formula to hold down the #2 spot.

I think the Mariota sprained MCL means we're going to see a whole lot of AK in the next two games, but they're not going to panic and try and sign another guy.

Which is good. Because there are no other guys available who are worth a bag of chips.

I’m actually looking forward to seeing the increased AK snaps, we know Hartman is a waste of space and we know we need a rookie contract backup QB sooner than later. So this will be excellent information-gathering and will hopefully kickstart some development. We don’t need him to be a stud, just functional. Let’s see

My guess is they're going to start Jayden and the starters in game 2, and then bring in AK as the second guy, essentially reversing the order from week 1 to give both guys the same type of opportunity. AK will get probably the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and Hartman will get mod-up duty.

What's going to be telling is who starts game 3. If it's AK, then that probably means he's won the job. Now, does that mean he is on the 53? That's going to be the question.

My fear is that the Mariota injury will scare them off playing Jayden in Game 2.
