I know at this point a depth chart is nearly meaningless, but it's odd seeing Rb divided up into McNichols/Allen and Ford/Henry. It makes it sound like they're holding 2 duels for positions and not aiming for the best 2 out of 4 overall.

And seeing Kaliakmanis behind Hartman is disheartening for a draft pick.

Llkes the idea of signing Decker and keeping Coleman at LG -- part;y because he likes to have two athletic O lineman to help protect Allegretti.

I thought Coleman played well in ‘24 for a rookie 3rd round pick. He needed a lot of help though. Was good to hear Logan say he looked better in ‘25 (I didn’t notice if he got as much help from chips and such last year).

I wonder if the scheme makes any difference in terms of protecting/helping Coleman - more condensed formations (tight alignments more conducive to chip help) and heavy PA.


I’d still sign Decker. Tunsil was a huge loss as a starter, but it’s also a hit to our depth. Coleman gets to continue his battle at LG (as you said). If Decker gets banged up but is still able to play (maybe the biggest knock on him?), you could always sit him for a week or 2 to get right… something that might piss off a player, but as a 1 year stopgap, that’s less of a concern.

I agree, the DEPTH also took a hit. I honestly don’t see a reason (other than money) not to bring in Decker. Doesn’t seem to be happening though by all accounts.

I'd imagine being under center by itself probably helps. The D doesn't get to pin its ears back and always attack the same point. QB can drop to different depths. There's more confusion as to whether it's a running or passing play. Heck, the motion may help in diagnosing pressure, too.

I don't think that's entirely true. One of the problems with under center is a defender can, if they get the right jump, take steps forward faster than a QB can go backwards.

One of the benefits of shotgun is it provides immediate space between the OL and the QB at the snap of the ball. Under center, you have to create that space. If one of your linemen lose immediately, the QB is buried before he even hits his drop.

Teams ran under-center as the primary formation for 30 years, and there was always immediate pressure at times.

There's benefits and drawbacks to every formation. I am not saying it's going to not be helpful at times, but it's also going to cause problems at times.

My guess is that will last as long as Coleman proves he can play LT and stay healthy and available.

If he struggles in practice, joint practices, or gets nicked up, I think this position will change.

But I have no problem letting Coleman have the first shot at it.

It seems that what we need is a backup/spot starter G/T to replace the hole Coleman leaves behind. Doesn't need to be Decker, but at least a step above Wylie
 
I hate to lose Tunsil but am not as down on it as some, I think Diggs is the bigger deal. Tunsil >> Diggs. But factoring Jayden suceeding in the past with Coleman at LT -- I can see it working again.

I agree. Losing Tunsil just stinks, especially on the issue of depth. But Diggs just seems to be bringing a new dimension we haven't had in a long, long time.
 
Coleman would be a good choice at LT, but I would like them to pick up one of the available ones out there if (God forbid 🙏) Coleman gets injured.

Doesn't necessarily have to be Decker and his higher price tag, but one of the others available.
 
Yep. We need probably two higher end backups. Guys capable of being spot starters at least.

I think we've been trying to find another guard/center don't know if we landed the one we need and now we need another tackle.

Pretty sure you meant to put the allegator mouth pointing in the other direction to indicate greater than.
 
One understated aspect of Diggs joining the WR room is to beat zone coverage. Looks like he was doing that at camp too. Sometimes having a veteran who has a good feel for the game and has seen every defense the NFL has to offer can be a comforting presence because they have a good recognition of where to break in their routes in order to hit the soft zone of a defense. I assume it could lead to some nice anticipation passes from JD5 with room to run for Diggs.

EDIT: I also hope the Amos ankle thing was just a bad landing and he just has to rest and/or ice it. Such a promising rookie season until that injury, last thing you want to see is him adding another injury on top of it as he fights to work his way back to be ready for Week 1.

That's why I expect that Diggs will have more receptions than McLaurin. He's basically WR2 and partially replacing Ertz except he doesn't wear lead boots.
