Because the "depth" we were trying to turn him into is an LG who couldn't beat the player they tried to let walk over the offseason. We are missing a center, safeties, and a street free agent signed a couple weeks ago is seemingly the best healthy CB on the team according to training camp reports.

If the Commies were content to keep Coleman as a swing OT, I'd feel differently. The team has had no interest in that until today, and were seemingly trying to find a way to make him valuable to the team because being an OT was not enough.

Do teams like the Eagles sit on valuable (maybe not to this team, but as a starter from a playoff run, valuable to someone else) square pegs and try to fit them into round holes, or do they trade them so that they have the means of drafting new talent which may conveniently be round pegs for their round holes?

Not sure if that's true or that reporter's opinion. Then again, them drafting Conerly could speak against their belief in Coleman, too.

All this is weird to me since Coleman had a good rookie campaign and as I just posted in the offensive line thread was good again in relief of Tunsil over the last three games last year.
 
Damn,, just learning of the severity of Tunsil's injury!! It's like, take a step forward with Diggs only to take a step backwards with the Tunsil news. I'm good with Coleman at LT though,,,he held his own on our run in 2024. #HAIL
 
Not insider info, but Stephens seems to be moving ahead. Moody has missed a few kicks in each of the last few rounds. The next important test will be to see how each does under the "pressure" of a preseason game. I'd imagine Moody should feel less pressure since he's been there before. Personally, I'm rooting for Stephens, younger and bigger leg.

I think Lynell Willingham is a bit of an idiot personally. I also don't think the two moves they made were really because of anything Coleman did or did not do. They traded for a top 5 LT. You do that no matter what if you can, unless you have a top 5 LT. They drafted Conerly, who they thought was the best player available when they drafted. And he's a first round vs. third round talent. And then they tried desperately for Coleman to take over the LG spot, he even started 2 games there.

So, I don't really think they turned over every rock to replace him. Some poster, I can't remember who, thinks Lynell is worse than Chris Russell. I don't know about all that. But he seems to be somewhat of an overreacting shock jock type of dude.
 
I hope we give Coleman an honest chance. I think he'll show out for us. More, I don't really trust our former o line coach's judgment. Maybe the new guys will be able to see something/develop Coleman into something.
 
I don't know if it's true, but it feels like we haven't had a long time answer that we the fans felt comfortable with since Mosley and Lohmiller.

edit: looks like Decker is expecting to be in the $10M range. Never mind, I like the idea if he is available at that price

Mr. "Youngest-in-charge" grates on my nerves, too. He's the kind of guy that just spouts the most ridiculous takes he can to get interaction.

If Decker balls out in his role here as a stop gap, he will be able to demand whatever he wants next year as he moves on.

He'll be in the same situation he is in now, only another year older. I'd love to have him but I just don't think it's realistic

Guys sitting in free agency this time of year don’t really get multi year deals. They wait for an injury to occur that will give them an opening to earn a nice salary for this season and hope they play well enough to land a full time gig next year. Not sure what his market value is right now but it won’t be crazy and we have plenty of cap space.

Feels to me like this one is easy to call. Either he signs fairly quickly or it means we have enough info on him to pass given their familiarity. One way or another, we need to sign a vet because Offensive Tackle just became the new WR2 discussion.

If he stays healthy though (probably the reason for Detroit’s request to take a pay cut) people won’t have durability concerns at the forefront of their minds.
