None of this matters.

The only question is: what line configuration protects Jayden the best and gives Washington the best chance to win?

The left to right and right to left stuff is something only the coaches can know.

They’ll need to try multiple configurations. Likely behind closed doors as much as they can.

But if it’s Conerly LT and Coleman RT - sign me up. If it’s Conerly RT and Coleman LT, sign me up.

Wouldn’t you rather sign Decker and keep everything in the order we’ve had this far? I appreciate Coleman and it’s nice to not be absolutely barren in this moment, but I doubt they feel comfortable. Would think Decker is an obvious target. Kevin’s report of them going with Coleman “for now” makes me think they’ll be reaching out.

I’d like to see what Conerly offers at LT.

He won’t be there permanently until Tunsil’s contract expires, but if he can play there we know we have our LT after Tunsil leaves.

My plan would be to get Conerly LT reps in the first preseason game and see how he looks from a comfort standpoint. If he looks great, I’d plan for a RT - on roster already or otherwise.

If he looks rough or like he needs time, I’d opt for someone in FA land at LT.

But my first move would be seeing what Conerly offers there.

Setting aside the fact that 2024 was a miracle season full of low-percentage positive outcomes to end games, and not the result of fielding a superior roster outside of an electric QB…

Tunsil wasn’t on that team, but that team also wasn’t spending $30M/yr on his contract and hadn’t traded significant draft picks to land him, which then allowed the rest of the OL talent we now have to shuffle and field an overall better line. There’s an opportunity cost to acquiring and rostering a stud like Tunsil, and now we’ve paid that cost but won’t receive the benefits. It happens. Now a team that doesn’t like to spend all its cap space and hasn’t had a lot of draft picks hit, is at further disadvantage as one of the few elite uses of their cap space/draft picks is lost.

It’s really very okay that people are worried about this injury. You don’t have to get your feelings hurt because people are calling something negative that happened, negative. We can still have a good season, but the margin for error is a lot thinner and it just became a lot more difficult. That sucks and it’s okay for people to say it.

Why draft any players at all if everytime someone gets hurt you want to run out and sign a vet off the scrap heap?

Losing Tunsil isn’t negative. It’s catastrophic. It is going to hurt our already depth lacking offensive line.

This is the second or third biggest problem we could have had as far as an injury goes.

It’s gigantic.

Like you said, it’s not something that is completely damning, of course. Even losing Jayden wouldn’t automatically mean we’re screwed. But it’s a major blow.

Knee jerk hysterics is what bothers the most.
They haven't played one down in the regular season and some have already written the season off. I swear some of you are so thin skinned.

I had to do a double take after reading your response to make sure I was on BGO and not ExtremeSkins......sheesh

I'm not sure if it is unspoken.

Last year, they got really frustrated he couldn't stay on the field in training camp. He was hurt the beginning of the season and didn't play well. Paul came in and took over and never gave the job back.

I heard some reports he appeared to be winning the battle for LG.

I think based on what Keim and others have said, the big issue has been availability. And it's basically been stated out loud. By all accounts, he took his demotion well last year and became really valuable as the 6th OL in power running situations.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if now that they know the severity of Tunsil's injury, he's back in at LT.
 
Now that the initial sting has faded a bit, I'm finding myself confident that Brandon Coleman is going to come in and play well.

When Coleman played LT in the past, he didn't look bad at all. On top of that, he’s got more experience under his belt, he’s been in an NFL strength and conditioning program for multiple years now, and he’s learned the intricacies of the position next to him...which should help the mental side of his game back at T.

And in my opinion, moving him to LG was a mistake that was stunting his development anyway. Being forced to move him back out to T might actually be what gets him back on track to develop properly at his natural position.

The best part is that if he steps up, having two legit LT options and having to figure out what we do next year is a dilemma I would love to have.

I'd also be all for bringing in a guy like Decker on a 1yr. deal to push Coleman and add depth, but not as the unquestioned starter.

Because I want them to field the strongest roster possible? It’s not exactly complicated. Alan Thicke over here 🙄

I’m not totally opposed but seems like a lot of shuffling. Whatever creates the strongest line combination is fine with me. And I certainly haven’t analyzed Decker’s recent play so not sure if he fits the bill or not. If we stick with status quo though, we do have a depth problem even if the leak is sufficiently plugged with internal options. You can’t start a season with Conerly, Coleman and Wylie as the trio. Just not good enough.

It’s interesting that you can’t see that everyone else here already is “just talking” and that the post you wrote, that I responded to, was actually the thin-skinned response. You came into the thread and didn’t like the tenor of the conversation, had to let your disdain be known but didn’t add anything thoughtful or relevant. And by pointing that out I’m the bad guy?
 
One of the new signings Petit-Frere has more than 20 starts with the Titans at RT. He might now have more of an opportunity than he first thought when he was added to the roster

Keim has hinted they want more toughness out of Coleman where he can play banged up.

Looks like for now sticking with Keim, Coleman will be the LT.
 
One way to look at the Tunsil injury is this: the chargers lost Rashawn slater for the season and still made the playoffs. Yes, losing Tunsil is catastrophic, but it in no way means the season is over. We can still make the playoffs.

Not saying we will. But we can.
