Your thoughts on the running back room

Are you concerned a bit about the running back by committee
Without a standout do you feel we will have a solid running game or will they get the job done by sharing the load and possibly not having a thousand yard rusher
What are your thoughts here on the RB room ?
 
I like our running back room. I have high hopes for Bill. Love hearing he's making strides as a pass catcher. I will wait for preseason and intrasquad to see if he's gotten better at pass pro. As a runner, he was underutilized but very good before the team fell apart last year. White seems to be a good all around back and excellent receiver. The rook could be a good THUNDER back. McNichols always overproduces.

I just am used to one back handling the load and having that 1000 year rusher
 
That's the philosophy I grew up with: Riggo, Byner, heck even Jamie Morris, but I think more and more, you see the running back by committee approach. I think Detroit does it best currently.

As much as I like Bill, I don't think I see him as a thirty carry back. He's not Riggo or Eddie George. He's got power, but he's more of a one-cut, speed guy. Want to keep him fresh.

That’s what I grew up on also but the game is changing and I guess not having that 1000 yard leading rusher doesn’t mean what it used to mean
 
Out of the RB room who is the best blocking back ?
 
Yeah. The other thing to think about is that 1,000 per season over 17 games is only 58 yards a game. So, I think the 100 yard/game mark is far more interesting than the 1,000 yards per season one.

IOW, a part time running back should still fairly easily get to 1,000 as long as the OC doesn't hate calling running plays.
 
White? Ford?

Others would be able to answer this one better than me.

I hope the offense is a bit heavy on the run so the play action becomes more consistent and the more we run the ball that should take some pressure off #5 and keep him healthy
 
Which running back out of the room has a home run style play making ability speed guy

I actually don't think the premise of the question is correct. I haven't pulled stats, but I'm betting that it is fairly rare in the NFL for a RB to be a 'bell cow' who gets almost all of the carries AND who is able to stay healthy for 17 games. I believe the RB position has the highest rate of injury per play because they are getting hit on every single play. The NFL is so much more violent and the players so much bigger and stronger than they were in Riggo's day (and prior to that) and I think that's why using one RB predominantly has fallen out of favor.
 
They clearly want Bill to be RB1. He has many of the traits and he and they are working hard on improving the other traits.

After Bill I like White a ton and hoping Kaytron can be the short yardage guy. I can see them wanting either McNicols and Ford on the roster as they are both good all around. McNicols is more of a teamer, Ford may be the better back. Another high end fight there

I don't think they are sold on Bill by a longshot. He is definitely the most 'explosive' of the RBs in terms of raw speed, but 'raw' is a good descriptor of his general game. I dont think they trust him like they do Rachaad White. I will not be surprised at all if White gets more opportunities than all of the other RBs combined. We'll see.
 
I have been very publicly been a big fan of JCM, I think he has the explosiveness this offense has lacked for years. But I remain concerned about the OL, a unit fans believe is good for some reason when I see them ranked in the 20's which sounds more accurate. The interior is where the running game starts or stops. Paul is a good pass blocker but is bad in the run game, which is why he didn't get any decent offers. We already know about the issue as center and I have no idea how they expect to run against the Philly front.

I’m old school and just getting used to the carries by more than one main running back
And if running back by committee works then hell I’m all for it

Yeah I agree I’m not sold on bill but we shall see
