D.Payne love’s scheme

Hey,
We have a Breaking News forum where you can post article links… unless there is an article truly worthy of its own thread, that is probably preferable

Cue up the Barry White...

I've got to say that I'm looking forward to seeing the revamped D in action. New pieces, new strategy. Just hope it comes together from the start and is a marked improvement on what we've seen since, we'll I guess the Gregg Williams days.

There are a number of players on both sides of the ball that are hoping the newly introduced schemes get their careers on track or back on track

I’m just glad this is not D. Payne’s love scheme. 🫣

On a more serious level, I think I'd inherently distrust any "great" year from Payne during a contract year.

If he goes out and has a second career year these guys better not take the bait.

I don't think they will. Though I do think that some of that will depend on Newton. If Newton develops, then there's no real need for Payne anyway.

I do question what his measurable production is going to look like this year. He could play either NT or DE in the 3/4. Traditionally, those guys are really supposed to just eat up blockers and let the LBs and Safeties make plays. I don't know if that's how Jones is going to run the defense, but if we don't ask Payne (or any other DT) to really penetrate, more be there to stop the run and keep LB/S clean, then I could see all of our DTs potentially having good years but not having the sacks or pressures to show for it.

I wasn’t aware that we switched to a 3-4 defensive scheme
So I’m interested to see this defense develop and excited about the defense letting the linebackers show their speed and hopefully we don’t go through the lack of fundamentals like tackling

I don't know that's a traditional 3-4. I think it's more "positionless" with players expected to adopt multiple roles to cause confusion.

Yes but I like that it will hopefully dictate pressure and cause confusion and turnovers

Just hope we have cleaned up the tackling issue we have had recently
