The 2026 Free Agency Thread

If budget is the issue, he is the best option. I hate giving up picks but could give up a 6th if the Patriots are willing to split or eat most of the salary like we did with BRob last year when we traded him to the Niners.

He's option 4 in NE, easily be option 2 here

Last few pages summarized:

-ES is back, but it isn’t. And it won’t ever be… because it died.

-We are still talking about our wide receiver group. It has been a long offseason. Diggs is still available, he’d be better than anyone we have, but it doesn’t seem like we’re after him.

-The Yuk is doing something. Who knows what.

-Our ownership group is spending money but not really enough to turn the boat around.

-We are pro-animal conservatory.

I know others have shot this position down, but I really find it hard to stomach trading for a guy that the Patriots just signed a guy to a big money contract to replace. The Pats traded for AJ Brown to be their #1, and then they signed Doubs.

They know Boutte better than anybody. If they thought he was going to improve or break out, they wouldn't have bothered to sign Doubs, they would have just traded for AJ Brown and kept Boutte and that's it and that's all.

It just makes me uncomfortable to trade for a guy a team just actively tried to replace, and not for salary reasons.

Could he work here? Sure could. Is he better than our collection of WR2s? Maybe.

As is my way, I honestly don't care about trading a 5th or anything after that for a player you think which can help. So if they want Boutte and it takes a 5th, then go for it. No issues. And he's young. So, if he works out, it's a great situation.

The situation just makes me uncomfortable.

At worst he is our 3rd option. He gets no talk but has deserved it and why I have pushed his name numerous times.
What do you define by option?

He's probably the starter at Z.

However, the way they are currently talking about this offense, he's probably target 4 or 5 on most plays (Terry, Chig, Williams/Slot) being the first 3, Z/RB being 4/5, and we're talking about splitting ~32 passing snaps a game.

Now, they could change that plan at any point if they believed he was better than Chig and Williams/slot.

In that case, he might be the third option. I really think Chig is option 2 almost no matter what unless they traded for somebody like Higgins.

I was thinking him as the 2nd or 3rd wr option and yes, the starter at Z. I figure Terry will mostly be option 1. Boutte has proven he can start there and we do not have that on the roster.

Boutte is also at an age where we could extend I'm knowing we have him signed going into 2027. That might limit Terry's leverage a little

Honestly I don't think they will make this move. I think they believe in Dyami due to his relation with Jayden.

My gut is Burks doesn't make the team even though I really want him to become the stud of the squad. He can't separate.

I’m a little out of the loop - did we bring in the Booty?

Even though I’m not nearly as high on Diggs as most of you seem to be, I’d much rather sign him than just do nothing. If they don’t want a diva who’s about to turn 33 I totally understand, but if it’s about money?? That would really piss me off. We have 50 million in cap space and we’re trying to nickel and dime this guy? Supposedly there are five teams after him, so if you want the guy pony up a few extra million and get it done. I really hope this is the front office saying ‘his character is questionable and he doesn’t have enough left in the tank to make a difference for us’ rather than ‘maybe we can find someone who’s asking for less’.

Diggs had over 1000 yards last year while we were starting a group of street FAs because everyone AP signed got hurt.

If they think that he doesn't have anything left in the tank compared to that then we probably need a new FO.

With any question of Amos's health, it is a damn good thing they made the move for Douglas. And very happy it was Diggs bro instead

It’s a nothing statement, we know he tried and failed to spend a bazillion dollars to improve WR

My hope remains this

A. Just about every beat guy thought this team wanted and would sign Aiyuk

B. Aiyuk imploded and now that idea looks insane

C. Do they pivot to Diggs?

As to C I used to think no way. Now I am thinking maybe. Will see.

It's a pointless question because we all know he's not going to answer it truthfully.
If it was Nicky Jhabvala, not surprising. She asks the most milquetoast, friendly questions ever.
