I started a little personal podcast on Spotify/Apple Podcasts called 'The History of Weird'. It's mostly just funny stories from my past. No idea if anyone here would be interested, but here is an example...

Did you get rabies shots at the health clinic? We had a bat in our house last week, I shared it on another board and some posters insisted I need rabies shots, one suggested I sterilized my house to CDC levels. I laughed.

A quick story. At the funeral of a classmate a story was told, I'll add a side note: Donny had a pet racoon when we were in Jr High. Anyway this guy and Donnie were fishing on the upper Potomac. A racoon was on the shore snarling and threatening them, obviously rabid. Donnie told his friend to keep it occupied as Donnie snuck up behind it. He grabbed the rabid racoon, ran into the water and drowned it.

Yes... I had to have 3 sets of rabies shots. I didn't think they were that bad TBH - what makes it an ordeal though is that they inject you anywhere the skin was broken. Since I had bloody scratches all over my body - well, I probably got 100 small injections. It got old pretty quick. I don't know why someone would think you'd need rabies shots just because a bat got into your house. I remember as a kid a bat got into my grandmother's house while we were visiting and all of the women were screaming for us to lay down and cover our heads because there is an old wives tale that bats will get entangled in your hair, lol... that bat was a lot more scared and frantic than we were.

And your friend Donnie is insane.
 
I love sitting on the patio watching thunder storms roll through.... Moreso at night with the amazing light show.

Same here. Not only for that reason, but for the wildlife views.
For some reason the most unlikely wildlife have felt comfortable approaching me in very close proximity lately.
It's made for some good pics and videos I have taken

For me, it just puts me in a really calm place. I use to backpack and camp a lot about a billion years ago. Spent many an hour looking out at the rain from a tent, with the other option being sleeping. The sound of the rain hitting the metal roof, looking through screen gives gives it a tent type of feel. If the pool is running, add in the babbling sound from the waterfall. Just sends me back in time I guess, feeling the storm, not just watching it. No tech in the mid 70's into the mid 80's, so unless ya had a book or shared a tent, wasn't a lot to keep you amused with heavy wind and rain outside. Most mornings, I watch the rabbits, and birds while havin my coffee. The owls are always around, and of course lizards, frogs, and snails. I did discover what I call micro frogs about a month ago. Always get tree frogs after it rains, but I happened to look down when the tiny spec of dirt jumped about 5 inches. Had to do a double take, and it did it again a minute or two later. Dozens of them some nights

Those look even smaller than those Jumping Spiders. Those things are hilarious and very interactive.
They come up to my chair, and If I just stick a finger or hand near one, it'll immediately hop on my finger and just sit there, staring me in the eye, with what looks like revolving eyes.
I'm like "What is this guy thinking ?"

I wind up with those little guys in my truck all the time. They're huge compared to the frogs. Don't see as many wolf and huntsman as I use too around the house.

Yeah these guys were posting links claiming if a bat is inside there is higher likelihood that it is rabid as it's demonstrating confused behavior. It is also claimed the bit is tiny and you can't feel it, if you slept in the room (which we probably did) there is always a chance.

I refuse to live life scared like that and I made my feelings clear. I'm just tempted to stay away from the board at 10 days just to get them thinking.
 
I think you have to start with the likelihood a bat has rabies. Less than 1% of bats in the wild get rabies, so the odds of encountering one are very small. The vast majority of bites from bats happen because someone tried to pick up the bat. I think what people are seizing on is the fact that rabid bats are the leading cause of death by rabies in the US. But you have to look at the reasons for that. #1 - vaccination of dogs and animal control has resulted in rabid dogs no longer being nearly as common. #2 - bat bites often go unnoticed so people are less likely to seek out medical attention and don't get the rabies shots.

Anyway, unless a bat was in my home, acting abnormally, or maybe was in my house overnight when people were sleeping and possibly unaware they'd been bitten , I don't think rabies shots would be warranted.

This was the rub, I tried to catch it and it disappeared. Wife thought it flew out the window I was not convinced. Then he showed downstairs, so it was possible we were asleep in the same room as the bat but highly unlikely. Everything I read, including my doctor's reply, said if you were asleep you may have gotten bitten and not know it.
 
So I wear sandals at work as I clean golf carts. I was told by my buddy, my supervisor, not to wear them as I can get hurt. I told him I use a chain saw while wearing flips, I have been wearing them all year with no issues.

So last week I wore them and smashed my big toe as the barrel of range balls I picked up swung out from the bottom. It was really bad, the nail came off and was held on only by the part that connects to the foot, the sides are loose and it was bleeding fairly badly. Oh and we had a golf tournament that day after I got off. But I couldn't tell anyone, they would force me to wear shoes, so the wife came down and we treated it the best we could. I wore sandal golf shoes for the tournament.

A few days later it was getting better, then I put on a pair of sweats and nearly pulled the nail off again. It still hurts and is not getting better, I sure hope I don't have to deal with this all summer.

I'd suggest some composite toe sneakers. Like a steel toe boot, but lighter and more comfortable. Saved my toes more times then I care to remember. As for the nail.... sea salt soak at least once a day for a week or so. That's what my foot doc has had me do after procedures he's done for toe nail issues. Himalayan sea salt.

I did an Epsom salt bath and it did feel and look better, then I snagged the nail on sweats and I'm right back where I started. I figured I'd treat it again when the most recent Band Aid falls off, they don't stay on long due to the wear.

But it won't stop me from wearing sandals. I've worn them for most of 2 summer seasons and this is the first incident, I'm now much more careful when I pick up those barrels of golf balls.
 
I believe wearing sandals long periods also highly increases the risk of Plantar Fasciitis
And when that happens, it can get bad enough to keep someone from walking, altogether
