McCrery and other commissioners argued the entrances require a stronger architectural presence because the stadium sits at the eastern terminus of East Capitol Street, one of Washington's most important ceremonial corridors.
 
Politicians are going to bloviate. God forbid they just let the guys who do this for a living do their thing. I think the biggest issue being discussed is how to ensure entry into and exit from the stadium isn't a nightmare. That's a conversation worth having but the rest of it ... meh.

Completely agree. And unfortunately, to me there realistically is no way to ensure entry into and exit from the stadium isnā€™t a nightmare. Not at that location. Iā€™m picturing an hour just to get out of the parking garage and another hour to escape the gridlock leaving the stadium. Everybody wanted the stadium there, and I totally understand why. But this is the price you pay.

Itā€™s the commission of fine arts and they are also talking about views from the river.

It looks like they donā€™t think it looks good enough. They arenā€™t talking about function.

That's not completely true. You are right that the folks who have to approve the final plan are primarily focused on aesthetics, but the changes they are imposing will have functional impact. The designers/architects have separated parking garages to try and optimize flow in and out of the stadium and also separate pedestrian traffic from vehicular movement. The 'commission' is trying to move parking garages for aesthetic purposes, ignoring the primary purpose of why the current locations were chosen.

I'm not saying any of this is some massive deal, it's just typical bureacratic hoops that will slow progress until everyone that has an opinion and gets a federal paycheck has their say.
