Harris has spent a ton of invisible money since purchasing the team. Upgrading practice facilities, jersey redesign, upgding Northwestern Stadium, etc. He's been far from cheap. On top of that, everyone who complains that we have so much cap space ignore the fact that we spent the firth most in the league. So while we have room to spend more it's not like we didn't spend a lot.

Pennies, it’s a grey situation. Not everything has to be “our guy is the best or he’s Dan Snyder”. It’s okay to be happy with some things and unhappy with others. Normal, even.

I work on data points. Expanding salaries that don’t equate to jersey sales and revenue growth is spending money. I see an action that contradicts ‘cheap’

He’s fleshing out the organization into a professional outfit, like his other teams, that should be commended. I don’t need to talk down about what he’s doing in that category to have concerns elsewhere.

Adding scouting and trainer salaries to the books is like adding vet min player salaries. It’s apples to oranges.

I don’t know why some fans really enjoy doing defensive accounting karate for billionaires. Harris is proving to be a huge improvement over Snyder, and hopefully he turns out to be one of the league’s best franchise caretakers. That doesn’t mean we’re not at a comparative disadvantage compared to the owners who are willing to burn cash like Kroenke and Lurie.

I’m personally hoping that once the new stadium is built and the org has a solid foundation in place, cash flow improves, and we no longer operate on a budget (which AP has acknowledged multiple times). We can be a great team operating under constraints, especially with an elite QB. Franchises have done it before. I just want to aspire to be the BEST team, the class of the league.

There’s nothing controversial or negative about that. People don’t need to be scolded or put in their place for criticizing how cash is being spent on the roster over time, every time the ownership group invests money elsewhere. People don’t hate this ownership group, there’s a lot of hope wrapped up in these guys. Everyone wants the best.

I didnt mention Snyder, nor did I mention any kind of glowing endorsement of Harris. I quoted, and pointed out, that he's investing money in the team despite some people calling him cheap. If you want to be critical of his spending within roster constraints? Sure. Be that way. I disagree, but to blanket argue that he's cheap is flat out wrong. He's investing money in the team, and that's what I was highlighting. If you disagree with where that money was spent, fine, but there has been money spent.

I work in finance, 11 people in Scouting, and another 10 in trainers is probably conservatively $1.5m against the bottom line with no direct return on investment It's added expense, and it's not equivalent to vet min, because there's a bunch of different factors that negate Vet Min contracts against a pre-determined and budgeted cap. This is expenses that were not previously on the books.

If I remember, Harris' core business is turning around distressed businesses. That's what he understands. Probably a part of that is an instinct of when pumping money is useful and when it is a waste. He probably also believes in listening to his area experts as he restores businesses across a number of disciplines. So, at this stage, his goal is probably rebulayerilding the team's infrastructure and trying to make it sound. He's also likely trying to figure out which parts of the business are too broken to be worth investing in.

I think that's why we see new training facilities, locker rooms, field improvements, fan experience improvements, and staff expansion even ahead of player expenditure. Again, I even disagree that he has withheld investing in adding players. He signed off on spending the fifth most money in the league. That ain't nothing.

Now, Harris (or Peters) may balk at spending high on players that promise a low yield on return. If so, that explains why they bid high on the "best" receivers out there and then went for the duct tape players when they failed to land the top free agents. But Harris' eye may really be on what the Commanders will become five years from now than 2026. He seems like the kind of business man who practices patience and believes in a "process." For us fans that process may be painful because we see glaring needs that continue to remain poorly addressed.

Mind you, every word of this has been a guess. I don't know Harris' blueprint. I can only make reasonable guesses.
 
To be fair, it is relative chump change compared to player salaries.

I don’t know if Harris has been ‘cheap’ in some endeavors or if Adam Peters is uber-conservative. It does feel like we’ve outbid quit a bit on some possible signings and of course when you have needs and don’t use all your free agency $$$ it gets fan attention.
