I have to agree. Pretty much spot on. I'd like to replace Delane with Downs but too much intel out there showing that AP wants Delane over Downs.
 
Sounds like Styles has a chance to drop, non premium position and IMO his stock greatly benefited from the combine.

I'd be OK w Styles, but I'm not sure he is high impact player. I think I'd go Tate or Downs ahead of him.

Still have to take positional value into account. If Love goes at 3 he enters the league as one of the highest paid RB's in the NFL. Without ever taking a snap. RB is not a premium position. And analytics have taken over the NFL.

Titans look like they may pass on love they are looking at edge,LB, and WR. The gmen would take him they never got over losing Barkley.

To be fair we made it to the NFCCG the year before last, with a rookie QB, with a D that should be worse than the one we better be fielding this year for this staff to keep their jobs. Because the offense was clicking, the weapons we had stayed just healthy enough and spry enough, and the QB was (mostly) kept clean. And if not for what, four ill-timed turnovers, we may have made it the SB but we couldn’t overcome it. People forget we were very in that game all the way into the 3rd quarter before it all fell apart.

So…yeah, I want them to keep building up the defense as they go, and they’ve added a lot this offseason. But I’m more interested in keeping our QB productive, healthy, and happy…in terms of working toward the longterm goal of developing him into a true franchise guy who is worthy of signing a massive longterm contract with us and competing for superbowls.

I personally think Styles is a higher impact player with a higher ceiling than the very safe, cerebral Downs. Styles is capable of leading the D as well, and he can run with athletic TE’s like a damn deer. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that on this team in my lifetime. Imagine having a guy taller than most WR’s, as large as most TE’s, who just ERASES the middle of the field as a target-rich environment and forces teams to throw lower-percentile passes toward the sidelines to avoid him as the rush works towards the QB. I think that’s higher value than a great box safety without length or elite athleticism to likewise erase the freaks he’ll be fighting over the MOF.

Tate's measurables scare you but Tyson who didn't do any tests don't? There are some who think he runs in the 4.5's just like Tate does. Tyson isn't crazy fast.

For me with Tyson I get those who prefer him -- its a different flavor that Tate. Tyson is very twitchy with good seperation skills in short space. But Tate is better than Tyson in a number of categories.

It's close. But I don't understand at all this narrative that some have that he's an elite WR if not for the injuries -- for me I'd love that to be true but it doesn't even seem close to be true IMHO and I know some agree with me, some don't.

As multiple draftniks have said Tyson is polarizing especially within the NFL -- not as much so with the draft media.

Agreed but in the end most of the time it comes down to the D holding the O from the other team from scoring. Most of the time. JD5 needs weapons. Totally agree and AP must find him some. TE was improved upon when they signed Chig and they missed/whiffed on WR so they must address the position in the draft. If they draft Tate. that's cool but I'd rather go Styles/Downs over Tate, the WR at #71. Respectfully, I'm not changing my mind on that. All of us hope that AP nails this draft and I'd have to think he knows his butt is on the line if he doesn't produce.

There is zero correlation between speed and NFL production. The least of almost any position—even OT has a higher correlation between athleticism/speed and production.

To be technical there is actually a negative correlation between measured speed and NFL production once you get faster than the 4.4’s, but that’s due to track athletes pretending to be WR’s so I won’t lean too hard into that.

Tate has everything he needs to be productive in the NFL imo. Even as a deep threat, because he disguises his routes well and can separate, which is rare for guys who have a lot of contested catches in college. A lot of times that’s a red flag bc those guys actually can’t separate against college corners, but that’s not the case with him

What measurable does Tyson have over Tate?

By measurables I mean size. Tate's build scares me. Just like JD's did. And let's not forget Tate missed 3 games to injury as well.
 
I am so happy the overall mood on the board has swung toward recognizing what a trainwreck WR is. It STILL hasn’t gone far enough, but I’ll take it.

So I am now bracing for Tate to be available at 7…and then still available at 8. And I will lose my everloving shit about it.

And then I will calmly slide into an opioidic state of mind about what’s going to occur in the next 12 months, and say I told you so a bunch, while sinking further into the couch cushions each and every Sunday.

It’s come full circle for me. Flipped the script for awhile and put Love at the top, but no, it’s Tate. He helps this team more, short and long term . Love would be so damn fun to watch but Tate moves the needle in the win column more.

The optimist in me clings to hope they’re putting out this defense declaration as cover, but don’t really believe it. He’s being massively underrated and this franchise will have deep regret if they pass on him.

Tate today, Tate tomorrow, Tate forever!

Yeah I'd be good with Styles. He's a freak with insane upside. High character.

Totally agree to disagree, it’s a matter of preference and perception.

It makes me very nervous to imagine sitting at 71 with a glaring WR need that the entire league knows about, hoping a guy we like falls. Easy to jump for teams behind us, so how high do we have to jump to get our guy, if we have one, in the 3rd or late 2nd? That’s absolutely nerve-racking. I’d much rather take care of WR in the 1st (if Tate is available) with a legit prototypical outside WR, and then let the draft come to us at 71 being able to target CB, S, LB, even DL if the value matches up. Just feels dangerous to pigeon-hole needing a WR there, which we would.

But definitely respect your right to think otherwise, as always

Missed a few games this season, minor injury, looks like he played the full season the year before.
