The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Did a quick look at the bottom team schedules, they mostly have games against each other so some teams are going to rise and win some games.

In short, its early for me to root for losses. But I think they will come organically. Looking at some of those other team schedules, I'd be surprised if they don't end up with a top 5 pick.

Dudes a beast... but I thought the same thing about Chase Young.

The difference seems to be that Bain is obsessed and studies his ass off where Chase Young was not like that at all

My son was the head equipment manager for the Hurricanes for 4 years and his contacts said that the guy is just insane in regards to preparation

I've always been a defense first type of guy but I wouldn't mind a top flight wide receiver either

That's why im quickly falling in the camp for a trade down. I would love Bain, but if we are top 5 and some QB hungry team comes asking for a trade it would be wonderful to get that 2nd rounder back and possibly some change. Best case would be to stay top 10 and we still can land a blue chip DE or WR

that is the way I see it; not rooting for losses but it is nice to have a silver lining. I am not as down on this season as most. We lacked depth going into the season so the horrible injury bug has a distorted effect on the team. I think we find some players for next year and are set for a giant step forward in 2026.
 
Man! These two teams are stacked with draft capital. NYJ rose to #1 today after flurry of trades.

This team needs to end trading draft picks for age 30 level veterans for the near future.

As others have mentioned, this team lacks depth and particularly younger depth with players that have true developmental potential.

If you add up the picks from Lattimore, Tunsil and Samuel trades, it's almost an entire year's draft class worth of picks.

The other thing about roster building I remember Jimmy Johnson, Belichick and even Andy Reid coming in and going out of his way to sign and acquire younger players that hit the market and may have upside return for the club.

Finally, we seem to be targeting these players like Treylon Burks and Drake Jackson, guys that aren't going to help us win the NFC East in 2025, but have talent and may turn out to be home runs at very low cost/risk.

My contention is we should have been doing this all along - hitting other teams practice squads and younger draft picks cut for a number of reasons that we graded out well on our draft board.

Instead, we were acting like this was 1972 and George Allen was reassembling the Over the Hill Gang.

That team already had Sonny Jurgensen, Charley Taylor, Larry Brown and a host of other players to build on when Allen arrived.

We had NOTHING in 2024 when Snyder left - the cupboard was absolutely bare.

This was an expansion team in all but name. We need to recognize that and not try and pimp the process for short term gain at the cost of Daniels' future.
 
Eh, we could realistically beat the eagles at the end of the season if they’ve clinched the bye and are sitting their starters after the half. I’m sure they’d love to hurt our draft position too
 
Not rooting for losses here, BUT the dream would be to be like 1st/2nd overall with 1-2 blue chip QBs, and a partner at 3 who we can pop back 2 spots, add like a 2nd and maybe a bit more depending on how many people are vying for the spot, and still get someone like Bain.

Jordyn Tyson and Carnell Tate of course also on my wishlist, don't know range to expect them to go, but Ohio is WR University right now, and while we can't reserve Jeremiah Smith for 2027, we can grab a really really high tier guy who will absolutely help Jayden.

I've been watching Jordyn Tyson who for now by most is considered the top WR. I like him so far. He's not electric with the ball in his hands so he's not a Nabers type. He's more in the Smith-Njigba style. A dude that is crossing all over the field. Left, right, in between the numbers. short, medium, long. Everywhere. Has good body control and great hands. Makes acrobatic catches. I got to watch more to digest. A couple of small things about him. In the three games I watched he fumbled in two of them. I do like his run blocking. I think his style fits Jayden well in that he's always adjusting his route when his QB is scrambiling to get open. And he's a good down field blocker so if Jayden takes off, Tyson would be running with him and trying to get him free.

Makal Lemon, who is a slot WR. I watched a little. Am a bit biased against a slot WR without size or special tools but he's a feisty player. I noticed the PFF draftnicks love him.

I like Carnell Tate from watching his games in real time. He reminds me of a slightly rich man's Tee Higgins. Makes big play after big play, acrobatic catches and is really good with contested catches.

I want to see what all three run. All three look fast enough but aren't burners. So their combine should be interesting.

Yeah I think an aggressive off season can fix this roster fast. I am optimistic about how it will unfold.

Reuben Bain I think is the answer. However, Reuben Bain is probably going to be the first non-QB off the draft board, maybe the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th overall pick , so we probably have to go 4-13 to land him. Lets say we finish 6-11 and get the 8th or 9th pick. Bain will likely be gone, but WR 1, Jordan Tyson could be here. So realistically we have a better shot at landing WR 1, I guess the more realistic question is Edge 2 vs WR 1. That may be a more realistic scenario for. Like SIP I would be open to a trade down if can pick significantly picks for moving down. I would not mind moving down from say 8 to 15 if it mean picking up a second rounder in this draft and a fourth rounder in next years draft for example. And if we get a really high pick like 3rd pick and a team wants to move up for a QB from say like 8th, I would definitely be willing to trade down for like pick 8, next year first rounder, and this years second rounder. Given we have our QB and no second round pick this year and the oldest roster in the NFL I am definitely interested in trade downs if the offers are fair.

We are not going to have our top 3 outside WR’s, and we will be playing with our backup QB.

And why would anybody that’s hurt, even a little, and is under contract next year push through and play? The only guy I can think of with a motive to do so, is Deebo.Tons of guys will be sitting.

Totally possible. We lost 8 in a row to end the 2023 season. However, its the NFL where there is a lot of parity and we could just as easily win 3 or 4 more. The realistic ceiling is probably 7-10, the realistic floor is probably 3-14 and the middle ground may be 5-12 which may give us the 6th, 7th, or 8th picks.

would not be surprised if we lost out. Half our starters are 2nd and 3rd teamers

There is a real lesson here. Chase Young is only one of many examples of high first round busts we’ve seen. I’m constantly amazed that people still think these picks are so valuable that they want to deliberately lose football games and trade away our best players just so we can acquire more of them or move up the board a few spots. I mean the whole goal is getting good players and winning games, why sacrifice either for another Chase Young? It’s just such a weird mentality to me, I guess maybe it’s how people cope with the pain of being a crappy team.
