The Jayden Daniels Tracker

Didn’t love the tenor of Jayden’s presser today. Nothing he did personally. You can tell he just wants to play.

But I didn’t find it believable. There’s nothing good about needing to wear a knee brace and there’s no chance he’s not inhibited by it or the injury in general.

Yeah, if he's cleared I'd almost want to give him one week more. Maybe that's the ghost of RGIII's past haunting me, but it's how I feel. I want Daniels around for the long term.

From what I've been able to gather the north south running is not the problem it's the East-West

So, how does the Giants and Packers defenses compare to the Raiders? I wonder how much Jayden suffered from not getting preseason reps (mind you, Marriotta didn't either, but a young player probably needs reps more.)

3 games is a small sample size and these stats are not adjusted to opponents (in some cases, they will eventually be). So the quality of QB's they played affects these numbers A LOT. For example, the Falcons defense played against JJ McCarthy turning the ball over and getting hurt in his 2nd game, and then Bryce Young. So them allowing 120 pass yards against McCarthy and 114 against Young isn't as impressive as what they did Week 1, which was limit Baker Mayfield and the Bucs to 159 pass yards. It's also hard to directly compare defensive stats after only 3 weeks, because 1/3rd of the Giants & Packers stats come from us, whereas 0% of Atlanta's does.

Some defensive rankings for Atlanta:
  • 9th by DVOA defensively (combined run & pass)
  • 5th by EPA/Play allowed (combined run & pass)
  • 12th by Success Rate allowed (combined run & pass)
    • 5th in Success Rate allowed vs Pass
    • 25th in Success Rate allowed vs Run
All we know is they are probably somewhere around an above average defense. They are no slouch next week.

FYI by DVOA:
  • Giants 30th defensively
  • Packers 1st defensively

I'll put this here:

If I had to bet, I think JD5 is going to be out for the next 2 games at a minimum: @Atlanta, @San Diego. I think they want him back for the Monday night game against the Bears. That would give him 3 full weeks to heal and then build up strength again. It could even be @Dallas on October 19th. They really should be playing the long game on this. Mariota is just fine to play the next 3 games and we have a good likelihood of going 2-1 or something like that. They need to take their time. What you don't want is him limping around and getting hurt again.

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, I don't know what they will do, I'm not even saying what I think they SHOULD do, I just know knee sprains and how careful they have been with everybody who is injured since Quinn got here. The reporting is he wasn't close last week. My guess is the progression goes from "not close" to "not available" to "closer" to playing.

So I'm speculating we see Mariota until the Bears game or Dallas game. I know the NFL would love Daniels to be available for the Bears and Dallas games.

I think it's swung a little more towards Daniels playing now, but I fully get what you're saying. Especially with McLaurin out.

We're also heavily biased because of the whole RG3 scenario.

I thought I remember reading (or maybe from radio):
- Mariota is banged up
- Due to that, they may roll with either of MM or JD who is less injured

I don't know if there is more recent news, I have been buried in work and other things recently. I just remember reading (or hearing?) those tidbits.
Is it possible that JD is "less injured" and that's why?

EDIT: I cannot find ANY trace of anything like this anywhere now that I had a chance to look. I think I heard this on the radio on Monday, so maybe it was just a rumor. Anyway, if anyone remembers anything like that, I would be curious about it. I generally listen to 106.7 in the DC area. I just remember some reference to Mariota not being at 100% and now that JD is rested but not 100%, they may make a decision on who is feeling better. It sounded weird then, it sounds weird now, but almost positive it was said on 106.7 on Monday. Oh well, anyway, whatever this was, if Mariota is not on the injury report, 0 concern.

Wait what, Mariota got hurt too? Hold up, he's not on the injury report.

I checked that after posting this. This was said I think on Monday (or read?). So it was something someone on the local radio (I live in the DC area) mentioned.
I have no idea who said it or what it was about, but I have scoured all over now and can't find any reference. I am wondering where it came from, if anyone knows what I'm talking about, please clue me in. I am 90% sure I didn't dream it. I have been working a lot (with a lot of high stress activity all over the place too) so that is why it's only 90%!

Not sure where this came from but I will edit that post so it doesn't confuse anyone. Still curious if anyone heard any rumor like this on the radio, I can only assume it was a rumor. I have been listening to the radio a lot as I had to do a bunch of driving all week.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Mariota was feeling rough the day after his first game, particularly after not playing in the preseason and given how much he ran.

It’s Thursday. If it is legit, I’m pretty sure it would've been reported by now. Without additional context, I’m pretty sure the implication is that he’s still dealing with the Achilles tendinitis that kept him out of camp. He’s never really been given the all clear publicly by the coaching staff either. But apparently, he was good enough to play… and the only viable option once it was known that Daniels was out. But Mariota might be dealing with that for the rest of the season. That condition can linger a long time.

As I said last week, Daniels is going to only miss 1 game. And he’s playing this week, without a brace.

I don’t have inside info. But as a healthcare professional, there’s enough info there that you can read between the lines of what Daniels and the staff are saying, and what the media is reporting.

That doesn’t necessarily mean I’m excited about that outcome. His timing/command of this offense is a tad slow/off this year. Mariota has come in… and created some monentum. The offense needed some rhythm… and it finally got some last week. Credit Mariota. He throws a catchable ball and he’s been in target. Receivers are making plays again. It’s a start. Give Mariota another opportunity. Jayden should get at least another full week of full reps. He’s hasn’t been sharp and I dont think missing 1.5 weeks of practice before getting 1-2 before a game is a sound game plan.

It feels so sacrilege to think/say this, but I wouldn’t feel good about winning this week if Daniels is playing. As much as I love watching him play.

It sucks that Terry is out too. This week is going to be a scrap.

Im excited. But less confident than I was against the Raiders.

I feel every word you just said and i was thinking the same thing but assuming jayden is healthy we gotta start him.

Not just because he's so much more talented than marriota but because he's our leader and we gotta get him going and back into that rhythm that he was in last year because this team isn't going anywhere without him.

Last year with the ribs it was the same thing, there was a lot of discussion about playing marriota because he looked great in relief but jayden came back and eventually shook off the rust and carried us to 12 and 5.

When the breaks are beating the boys this year and we're facing elite competition like the eagles we're gonna need the jayden we had last year and the sooner we can get him back in there getting live reps the better we'll be.

Again, all assuming hes healthy and the knee is not a factor.

If JD is 100% then yes by all means come back and play as he gives us the most upside. Anything but that though keep him out. I for one do NOT want to even consider another 2013 situation with the future on the line

I agree 100%. It is September still. Start MM if he can go. give JD5 another week.

John Madden is speaking through him, brothers and sisters! Bow!
That used to drive me so nuts, like id never seen a football game in my life.

Well, folks ya see if he breaks the goal line thats good for 6 points and then if they kick the ball through the uprights thats good for one more point.

Thx john i got it.
