Yeah, I definitely feel for his wife. Whether she knew something was going on or not, having all of the world find out about it has to be devastating. I’m hoping she’s able to move on with her portion of the family assets and have a better and happier life with someone else.
 
My oncology appointment was Thursday and the news is that there is no news.

All my cancer is looking totally dead for an entire year now. I had a 1 or 2% chance of surviving it for 5 years but it's gone!

No wonder I've been gaining weight. A year ago I had remained pretty steady at 124-128 pounds for 3 years. Since then I have finally gained 20ish pounds. That is without my left leg prosthetic. I guess I'm almost 155 with it.

I was under 120 after they cut off my leg in 2021. Before cancer I was usually 185-195 depending if I was going to the gym or not. I hope to keep working out and eventually get back to 160 or so, 170 with the leg attached.
 
At the same time I found out that my infectious disease doctor died of pancreatic cancer, which is what I have, or had. Apparently he died 5-6 months ago and he had just found out about it last year. He was going to trials and thought he was going to be ok last time I went to an appointment with him. He was still working. He's a USN vet just like me and was in the Iraq area on a similar ship as mine during that 1990-1991 war. Dr Anderson at the Memorial Hospital in Chatanooga.

One of my wife's coworkers just found out that he had pancreatic cancer 6 months ago and died last week. We visited him and his wife at home a month ago because my wife wanted him to see that I was doing better and he could get better too. He seemed kind of OK but I guess not. He still weighed 200+ even though he was huge before. He wasn't a skeleton like I was for a long time.

It's crazy.

I was so close to death for months in the hospital, got infected in both my legs, arms, had a leg amputated, had the infection cause a stroke too. Somehow I am still here 4 years later. My wife was amazing and probably the only reason I made it. She never left my room in the hospital for 3+ months.

I'm luckier than I thought.

OK nobody in the history of this board will make a better post than these last 2. A 1-2% chance and you made it? Nothing I read for a week will be better than that, I'm so happy for you.

As a recent cancer survivor this hit home. I had a somewhat similar experience decades ago when the doc removed a pre-cancerous polup during a colonoscopy. He saw the look on my face, the first time a doctor said the word cancer to me, and then said it's not so bad. He explained he had a tumor the size of a grapefruit and he's fine. Said I should do another scope in a year, when I called to set the appointment he was dead.
 
I posted a picture of my tumor on here once, don't really want anybody to have to look at that nastiness again but it was the size of a football. Before it was removed you could look at my chest to stomach area and not have any clue that I had that inside. I looked normal, just lost a ton of weight quickly. I ate normally but I guess I was just feeding the tumor. It was 20cm x 15cm or something around that size.

Actually the 1-2% was just for the cancer itself, not even considering the infection that turned all my bone marrow black and dead and kept me in the hospital for 2 additional months. The first hospital had no idea what was wrong with me, thats why it got so bad. They flew me to Vanderbilt because they gave up. That was worse than the pancreatic cancer actually and I won't ever get rid of it. I have to take antibiotics 2x daily until I die, or they find a way to remove it from all of my bones. Apparently it's everywhere. If I stop taking the antibiotics for a day or 2 I get swelling in my leg that I still have, my arms, hands, hips etc. It gave me a stroke once in the hospital before they knew I had it so I guess I better keep taking those pills on time.

Yeah, I'm kind of lucky I think. My wife prays alot and gets others to do it as well. Maybe that means something, but I'm not exactly religious so I just go with it but really she saved me just by being there every minute while I was completely jacked up in the hospital and afterwards too. They sent me home with Iv's hooked up to inject multiple types of liquid antibiotics several times a day and she did that too, for months. I could really write a book about all the things that happened in the hospital. She wouldn't leave at all because the first hospital was just ridiculously incompetent. Make sure you go to a good one is all I can say. We didn't check, I figured a hospital was a hospital and a Dr is a Dr, nope!

I can't wait to meet you and your wife at the game here, we're of the same mind. I damn near died because of incompetence. Dr. Wurapa (the Dr. Fauci of Emory) saved my life after being hospitalized for 2 weeks with no diagnosis from everyone mentioning "cancer" every 5 minutes and freaking me out. Meanwhile, my husband was so paranoid that he wouldn't leave the house unattended to come visit me...and we know how that ended.

Yeah the wife has our sympathy. What humiliation, a terrible terrible way to learn that your husband likes Cold Play.

Sorry I’ve been MIA. We packed up and moved to North Carolina. Life’s been a whirlwind for essentially 4 months now 😆

I moved too, only 3 miles away...but downsizing a 3-level house into a 1-BR apartment is the biggest challenge of my life, especially at my age...hopefully yours is smoother!
