How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

My wife knows not to buy me anything that has Commanders on it, but she bought me a nice sweatshirt with just the new logo on it. Being a jerk, I said "Oh look, it's a shirt with a taco holder - does this mean you want me to go with you for Taco Tuesday?

Tuesday is date night and the Riggotonis are having tacos in the moonlight.

That is the classic look from the Gibbs Era. It would work fine, although it would still have that (imho) hideous W.

This is the way. I'd buy one of these long sleeve JD5 jerseys all day.
 
I think something like the above in the clean style of the current Jags unis would be beautiful.

But it's very difficult to straddle a fence between changing a team's core identity while simultaneously attempting to preserves some traditions. I don't know if it could have been done successfully by anyone, but I don't think the folks making the decisions at the times were experienced enough or tuned into the fans enough to pull it off. It was more or less one disaster after another.

You know what they say, the most likely result of trying to walk down the middle of a busy highway is getting run over.

Compare the two logos above.

I have two problems with the new one.

1) It's boring. It's mundane. It's unimaginative. It's too modern-looking for a team founded in 1932. It looks like an expansion team logo.

2) It's plain. There's nothing going on. Not enough colors. No detail.

Is it okay? Yeah, it's okay. Is okay good enough for our football team? I don't think so.

I don’t ‘hate’ the W but it’s a massive step back from the old Redskin logo. We went from artwork to a font.
It’s boring. It’s lazy.
I see the thinking. It’s inoffensive and follows the template set by the Packers, or the Bears. If we’d had that logo since the start it would be classic.
As it is it’s just a lazy rebrand.
Even a crappy name like Commanders could have had a cool logo.

Happy to keep the W as part of an overall brand, but I’d love a better identity.

Major Tuddy is fine.

I’m another fan on record who hates the mustard pants. My era was the 90s Redskins teams with the classic white shirts, burgundy pants. Bring back the stripes.

Hate the current white uniforms.
Love the black ones, but don’t feel like they’re our brand (though the Hail Mary kind of cemented their status as classic now! lol)

Love the gothic fonts. The Raise Hail stuff is awesome. The current social media team/branding team is on point.

Chris, while these uniforms would be cool and acceptable, I'd like to retro it back a bit more with these.

I've learned to accept the name now it's not going anywhere and if we continue the success of this season we will gain a whole new generation of fans. I know here in the UK more and more people are recognising my commanders gear rather than my Redskins stuff. Winning is an easy way for this rebrand to take hold. The kids who see JD doing well see him doing well as a Commander.

Personally I preferred the WFT helmets with just the numbers but ideally I'd love to see proper burgundy jerseys and proper gold pants. My choice for helmet would be something that incorporates the spear motif but that's probably wishful thinking. Maybe a W with the spear behind?

I really liked that helmet made to look like the old leather style…unfortunately they started using them right at the time the concussion conversation with the NFL really started heating up. I imagine that is why we never saw too much of them.

I would have bought a mini helmet.

I completely agree.

I know people don't like it, and I know it will never rival our old look, which was arguably the best in the NFL...but I personally can't help but feel like the current bold burgundy jerseys and gold pants really do pop on a sunny fall Sunday afternoon. As does the matte helmet. So if they keep this look, I'm able to admit that I am totally fine with it.

(The road & black uniforms are a whole other discussion, of course)
