You never know. But yeah, this is a game we should win.

I wish Kurt was still playing. His propensity to take sacks this year and turn the ball o we would have been helpful
 
I agree. Penix makes this Atlanta team much more dangerous than Cousins would.
 
I disagree. Yes - Kirk has been bad of late. Bad enough for a team to hand him 100 million dollars and decide to move on. But Kirk would've been amped up beyond believe to play Washington, and likely would've played out of his mind against us. Not saying we'd have lost facing Cousins - but I think we'd have gotten a bigger performance from him than what Penix will be able to produce.
 
Washington fans care more about Cousins than he ever cared about Washington. Now if Atlanta would have offered him bonus money for a win…then I would have worried.
 
Bruce Allen's best personnel move was not signing Cousins long term.

So even a blind squirrel finds an acorn now and then.

Falcons still owe him $27M guaranteed for next season plus a $10M roster bonus (assume they will cut him before they have to pay that $10M).

He will cost them $90M in cash for 3/4 of a season of mediocre football. Awful football and business decision giving that contract to a 36 year old coming off an Achilles injury.

Although i agree this game is critical to them as it is to us but their season is not over if they lose.
They will no longer be able to get a wildcard but they'll still be alive for the division title.
 
Got to have this one at home. Hopefully BRob and the RB crew can do their job along with the OL, run the ball and come away with no injuries.

Does that mean he’s immune in week 16? No, of course not, but I also think we’re past the point of thinking good games are anomalies, and seeing enough data points to have confidence what we’ve seen is the standard. Penix just doesn’t have the track record… yet… so i don’t think it’s problematic to expect him to have his struggles.

Yes, though I think for them to get the division they need to Bucs to lose a game if they lose to us.

They play the Panthers earlier in the day. So if the Bucs beat the Panthers (not for certain but likely), and Atlanta loses, then they have a real uphill battle for the division.

They would need to beat the Panthers in their last game and have the Bucs lose a “win and in” game against the Saints.

That could happen.

But I think it’s safe to say, their odds of making the playoffs if they lose drop precipitously if they lose.

So they’re going to throw the kitchen sink at us.
 
I am curious how Jayden did in any rain games in college. That may be a tell in how this game goes. Tony Banks fans remember he couldn't throw in the rain vs Seattle and Kent Graham came in and had no such issues. On the other side, I want Whitt to pay no respect to Penix. First drive run blitz attack at the LOS tight man force the kid... don't go all in on 4 beating 5 over and over in our failed approach of DCs past which makes the game about no coverage breakdowns in complex schemes e.g. DBs/BSJ forced to cover WRs/London for 4 seconds over and over. Unleash the Luvu beast. Helmet on the chinn. Dictate - don't let Atlanta drive down the field for an easy score and then attack. If its raining hard - go for a shutout since it will be low scoring.

Lattimore needs to get his hammy's sorted this offseason - try what Christian Watson did - sync those muscles. I will be pleasantly surprised if we see him again this season but have no faith he will survive any game he starts. If I were an OC I would run his man deep to start games if even as a decoy.

LOL at Atlanta for grossly overpaying for an old injured money grubber.

Again its awesome to have a game thread discussion opened before kickoff ES and not have to post in a score prediction or players draft day thread.

There was a feeling that Jayden couldn't play in the cold. He did fine in his two cold weather games so far.

I agree with you Boone. Kirk would've been up for this game and no way do I believe he would go out against us and look as bad as he has in some games recently. I think we have a better chance against Penix. Our defense has been practicing against a mobile QB all season and while there isn't a lot of tape to watch on him I feel confident that Whitt will have a solid plan to minimize how effective he will be. Play it like they did against the Eagles in the 2nd half. Contain the run game and force the QB to move the ball.
 
Maybe. But we have struggled all season against mobile QBs.

I think it's a talent issue. I think we are good enough to stop one thing. We are not good enough to walk and chew bubble gum. Last week, when we only had to stop the running game, we shut it down. When we had to contend with Hurts' running and passing plus a potent running game, we were in trouble.

So, whatever comes, we need to stay sharp.
