I've seen that in VA ABC stores, when visiting family in Va Beach.
I can't bring myself to pay $40.00 for a 375ml bottle without trying it first.
The next time I'm down there, I'll see if I can talk my brother-in-law into visiting the distillery with me for a tour and tasting.
 
A friend of mine just did 2 barrels of this aged in mizunara barrels. The fill is 75% MGP bourbon 7 years old and 25% Dickel bourbon I think 17 years old and was finished a little over 16 months in these casks. I was able to get a barrel proof of each and a 100 proof of each. Some of the best whiskey I’ve had in awhile.

It's a shame that ABC and other liquor stores don't have 'tasting' programs. Seems like it would be a no-brainer but maybe that would require other licenses.
 
This thread convinced me that I need to drive to a military base sometime to get better deals on whiskey.

The place I go to here is always over priced on most of these bottles but it's still the cheapest I've found around here.

Too bad that the closest bases are 1-2 hours away.
 
For around 20-25 dollars, this one is alright for a change of pace from wt101 or OFBiB. Not sure which one I prefer yet because all 3 are good stuff.

I've accumulated quite a selection over the past 3 months. One day I should do a comparison but so far I just like trying different brands.

Only thing I've really compared so far is Makers Mark vs MM46 and I definitely prefer the 46.

Ok where are all my Burbon loving brothers and sisters tonight after a great win?? Come on, what could be better than to raise a glass of brown to kicking some Eagle ass? For me tonight it's a favorite of mine that isn't hard on the wallet - Bib & Tucker 6yr. Anyone else ever enjoy this?

I'm contemplating opening my vintage 1991 bottle to celebrate 11 wins for the first time since 1991 but it might have to be done another day because it's already late and I was drinking cheaper stuff earlier so I might not really appreciate what I'm drinking lol.
 
I'm about to do dinner, then watch the Notre Dame game I had recorded. The Maryland game does not start until 9:30, this among other reasons is why I was not onboard with the west coast teams joining the BIG.

So that means no Maker's Mark for me, I'll never last.
 
Just bought a bottle of Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel. Haven't tried it yet. Anyone here tried it? If so, what did you think of it?

I liked it but didn't think it was quite worth the extra cost over their standard small batch ($35 vs.$60 where I'm at). That said, I found it a little sweeter and a bit more oak notes.

You need to know prices before you do that. When I visit family in Va Beach, my Mom takes me to the package store at the PX. While usually competitive, the pricing isn't always the best, and better deals can be often be found elsewhere. That said, sometimes that they have crazy good sales. I've snagged Woodford Reserve Rye, Buffalo Trace and Knob Creek 9 year, all for $19.95 a bottle in the past. Mom snagged me a Pikesville rye over the summer, for $40.00, which is a very good price. Of course, it's tax-free, so that helps. If you hit a package store, you'll get a better selection on the larger bases.

With the exception of a couple of their barrel proof released, I'm not a big EC fan. I tried the toasted at one of our tailgates, and again at a party. It's a little more flavorful than the standard and, understandably, oakier and doesn't drink as hot as the standard EC. If you like the standard EC, then you should like it. Is it worth the extra $$$ ? Only you can make that determination...
