I thought the DL play stepped up after Young got injured. I don't know if that means he was trying too much and not playing within the system or what. I don't believe we've heard anything negative about him like we did with Arrington though.
 
Prisco is counting us to lose... imagine that. I'm shocked!!
 
What a bolt from one end of the spectrum to the other, in no time :
We went from a DE who's a 1st Round/Generational pick of a lifetime...to a 7th Round pick, at the position.
 
FWIW everyone is saying the re-injury report is false....




Apparently the guy that originally shared that is getting blasted on Twitter... Von Miller's camp was the last week in June....
 
That's really good to hear. Not gonna lie; it's been so quiet with him and what he's doing I half believed it.

Lesson to me.

Ugh I know every team gets injuries, but can we get a least a half of a season without a major injury or to a top draft pick?

 
At least it’s a meniscus and not an ACL or MCL tear. He’ll miss the season but nowhere near as big a deal long term.
 
De'Andre Carter was such a pleasant player to watch last night for the Chargers vs. KC.

Contributes nicely in the passing attack, great on returns and gets upfield quick...

We all couldn't figure out why Washington let him walk in the offseason and his performance in LA continues to leave me shaking my head.

Add him in as a fourth piece for our receiving core and we would have the heads of defensive coordinators spinning for days.

I really want to see someone at the very least step it up for us in the return game. There are enough weapons at receivers that I guess you can stomach his absence offensively, but the return game is still a question mark at this point.

Anyways, I am going to stop crying over spilled milk from 5 months ago...

Someone mentioned this on Twitter though CH - and they are right. I think we assume the team didn't value Carter or 'didn't want him' but probably more complicated than that because:

1. We had an extremely crowded WR room
2. He was never going to get the chance to be a #1 or #2 here, maybe not even #3.
3. He's a West Coast kid and had mentioned it was his desire to play closer to home.

Personally, I would've cut Cam Sims and kept Carter if possible. But even that might not have been enough to keep him here if he had other priorities. I do think he is a gamer, and he was a very good return guy as well. Hated losing him, but it may have been unavoidable.
 
Carter has really played well the first 2 games. His opportunities came when Keenan Allen got hurt. He is making the most of it for sure. I wish they would have signed him as I liked what I saw from him last year. But I’m also really happy for him that’s he is having a good year so far in LA.

I agree with you, and addionally, I think back to when we 'let him walk'.... the team 'felt' a lot different. He signed with the Chargers on April 7th.

At that time Logan Thomas was early stages of Rehabbing his knee.
We had not yet had the draft (April 28), so Cole Turner, Armani Rodger, and Curtis Hodges were not on the roster yet
AGG had been struggling already, and I'm ASSUMING they had already had interest in moving him to TE
We had no idea how Samuel was looking til training camp, but I'm imaging they had a pretty good idea


Cam Sims was the ONLY big body reciever ont he team. In the moment I believe we all wanted to keep Deandre Carter, but i can also see that the team KNEW they were going to address WR early in the draft, and may not have been so sure about how the TE room was going to shake out. It's very possible, had the draft gone different, we would have started week 1 with Bates as the starting TE, and Sims playing a much 'bigger body' type role.

Those are really good points, John.

We often (at least I do) lose sight of the fact that sometimes the circumstances dictate that a player doesn't want to be here. No matter how hard the team tries to retain him, their hands are often tied if a player is looking to move on in their own best interests.

That's the side of free agency we rarely ever know the true facts about as fans.
 
Jack Del Rio criticizing Jamin Davis because his scheme repeatedly put the linebacker on the Jags best receiver is pure Bruce Allen.
 
Gotta agree with you there. JDR has not called a game without multiple head scratching moments from me, so for him to say someone isn't as good as they were....that's a pot/kettle moment in my book.
 
I'm not going to lay every defensive player's failures on Del Rio. Yes - he is ultimately accountable for every aspect of the D's performance, but without knowing what the scheme is supposed to be, what Davis is being trained and coached to do, I can't really assess if Del Rio is the primary problem.
We should also keep in mind, we HAVE a Linebacker's coach Steve Russ (and the assistant LBs coach is Rivera's nephew). It is not always about the coordinator (for example, I've never heard anyone laud Scott Turner for our OL performance).

Something that colors my thinking despite being generally unhappy with our D... Del Rio's had defensive success everywhere he's been to date. I can't imagine he's a) stupid and/or b) has forgotten everything he ever learned about putting together a good defense.

I never liked the Davis pick from the outset, because of his sole year at the position at a marginal football school like Kentucky, and because our record finding hidden gems in the draft is hit or miss over the years. I didn't feel like our team at the time was in a position to take a flyer on a high risk player.

It is a sad state though when you draft a guy that high and we're in year 2 and it's still quite possible the guy is a total bust. Whether that'll end up being Del Rio's fault 100%, or whether he begged the team NOT to draft Davis, or the kid is uncoachable, who the hell knows?
