Burner’s Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Probably better than Floyd

According to @PFF DJ Swearinger and Haha Clinton-Dix are the two highest graded safeties in the NFL so far this season

Swearinger leads the league with 4 ints this season.

Dix is tied with many others for second place, with 3 ints this year.

This is an interesting move. If you're in favor of taking a shot and loading the defense for a big playoff push, here you go.

Yes, Nicholson has been struggling all season. Everett could replace him, but he is more of a SS and not a FS.

Interesting. Very interesting in light of this afternoon's activity.

We have arguably, the best run D in the country.

And if Dunbar returns this weekend, good luck throwing the ball.

It seems to me that we made a decision that the offense was too hard to upgrade. It would have taken too much.

So no one scores against us again. That's it.

14-10 all the way through the playoffs.

I like it.

If we could get the Qb and the passing game to just be average (250-275/game)........

This team is taking a shot. As critical as I've been in the past, I can't wait to watch this defense the rest of the season.

One WR wasn't going to do the trick if Smith isn't up to par.

So load the D and take a shot.

Respect.

“The reason why we play this game when we put on a 21 jersey is because of him,” Clinton-Dix said of Sean Taylor https://t.co/vX3UDGBj15

With their trade Tuesday for Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, the Washington Redskins are getting more than another former Alabama standout to bolster their already stingy defense.

They're also getting a player who idolized and modeled his play after Sean Taylor.

You had me at Sean Taylor.

For all the critics who said the Redskins would fail, when it came to making a good move before the trade deadline, I say,

Ha Ha

Pass on JR, the D is much better without him.

Digging the HHCD signing, looking forward to him and Swearinger tandem for years to come.

Old school football! :D

I think it was Keim on ESPN that was talking about the move and intimated that the issue on Offense is with Alex Smith developing timing with his receivers, getting used to how they run routes etc.
He postulated that bringing in a new WR via trade wouldn't necessarily alleviate that issue.

I think the Skins view their receiving corps as solid if not spectacular, and are just putting their money on the fact that it'll eventually turn a corner as Smith gets more comfortable. Crowder and Quinn should be back soon which may help. Reed, Davis, Crowder and Thompson are all proven passing threats, Richardson has looked solid, Doctson is emerging that last couple of games... so we *should* be ok in the long run. I think I'd agree that the problem seems to be behind centre with Smith finding his feet.

I think Ax was talking about something similar in another thread, about Smith just seeming out of time with Reed and co. I think this is fixable with time.

So with that in mind, I love this move to further strengthen our D. If we can further clamp down on opposing teams both on the ground and in the air, then we just need a small improvement from the Offense to push us over the top. If Alex and co could just get 1 more TD and a Fg per game we'd be solid. That's just two more drives to get results on, which should surely be within the realms of achievability. I'm not asking for us to become 45pt a week powershouses!

(which would be nice!)

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

I gotta be honest, I like this move better than picking up a WR. It plays into our strength. Clinton Dix is a better player at his position than anyone we could have gotten at WR. We now have two of the best safeties in the conference on our team. And he's only 25.

However, he's an UFA at the end of the season, so whatever we gave up for him is a big deal. I'm interested to see what that was.

EDIT: Reportedly we gave up a fourth rounder. That's higher than I would have liked.

Loook at it this way. Instead of drafting a another Perine or Apke with the 4th round pick next year with the pick we actually have someone who is available and can contribute at a high level right now. And if we don't resign him we still get compensation.

That's funny, because everyone is saying we totally got a steal.
So it looks like there was no chance we could have gotten a lower pick that Henry would have liked :D

That post was, like, ten posts ago. :)

Apparently if he doesn't re-sign with us we'll likely get a compensatory pick, so I'm good.

Well....I always like to drive the car before I buy it. Here's hoping Packers management made a really bad decision!

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: News, Grades, Evals, Questions, Regular Season, 2018

Dix for a #4 in isolation is a lot better than the Cowboys trade or the ones for 30 plus year old players that were dealt.

The question is can our offense get out of its own way over the next 9 games?

Byron Marshall is set to come off IR which is a much needed infusion for the backfield.

We simply can't rely on Chris Thompson. Even with limited reps and a feature back in Peterson carrying the load, he can't stay off the injury report.

We have to move on and see if Marshall might be able to fill that role AND be a guy who can run between the tackles a bit too to relieve AP.

The other move would be for Quinn?

Possible help at WR in the slot as Crowder looks like he is going to miss several more weeks.
