Free Agency, The Mock Drafts, 2016 (Continual Updates)
The offseason is continuing to churn along now as teams are fully immersed with retooling their rosters by releasing players, restructuring contracts, offering new deals, looking at free agency and planning for the draft. BBQ takes the latest look at free agency and there are more scenarios to consider. There are major changes this week, so be sure to read each section. Also, the mocks will return before the week is over and they are going to be a regular feature leading to the draft.
We take the latest chatter from Redskins Park and media pundits as BBQ tries to formulate what could happen in the coming days and weeks. Who will the Redskins target, re-sign and release? We try to answer those questions and more. Feel free to offer your ideas on free agency and the draft.

The Redskins now have about $16M in cap space and haven’t restructured a contract thus far.
Last summer, Ryan Kerrigan received his new contract (just prior to training camp) and Trent Williams signed his new deal (just prior to the third preseason game). Look for a possible Jordan Reed extension at that time.
The Redskins have signed strike safety David Bruton. He is a special teams ace and a quality depth player at the strike position.
Perry Riley is now likely to stay as he tends to play very well when lined up next to Will Compton.
The Redskins have inquired about free agent CB Sterling Moore, but the interest is minimal.
The NFL has awarded several Redskins players with performance based pay for 2015. Will Compton ($222,465.82), Kyshoen Jarrett ($209,159.18), Bashaud Breeland ($205,310.97) and Will Blackmon ($203,607.92) top the list.
BBQ recently said that Josh LeRibeus returning to the team was unlikely, but not totally out of the question. The FA market at center is very thin. Ditto for draft prospects. He played respectably down the stretch and was brought back on a one year contract.
Kyshoen Jarrett is healing well and should be fine in about two months. He will miss OTAs and mini camps, but should be ready for training camp. Even with that bit of good news, there is still concern at Redskins Park.
Negotiations with Kirk Cousins are expected to resume in the coming weeks and the Redskins are going to be very proactive. Both sides want a long term deal.
The Redskins have given Tress Way a new contract extension – five years.
Frank Kearse signed with the Patriots and he will now be removed from our list. The same for Keenan Robinson as he has signed with the Giants and Tom Compton with the Falcons.
The new contract for Kedric Golston contains no signing bonus. He must earn his way during OTAs, mini camps, and training camp. He can be released with no cap hit.

Performance based pay does not count against a team’s salary cap.
File this under the importance of free agency. Over the last five years, 188 players who went to the pro bowl or were all-pro left for another team in free agency the following season. Only fifteen of these players returned to the pro bowl or became all-pro with their new teams.
The Redskins were not awarded a compensatory pick in the draft this year.
