Joe Barry Report Card

I think Kerrigan was held on Brees' long TD, if I'm remembering the correct play

They called back a big gain by them for a hold on Kerrigan...I think it was a 20 something yard gain on 3rd and long. I think Kerrigan is realizing that a little acting should get you the call...Orakpo never got that.

Here it is:

Hey did I actually see a cornerback blitz? By us?!?!
If so, it could be the first one I have seen us attempt in over 5 years.

The real test will be if we can reasonably contain Carolina's rushing attack.

Yep. And maintain enough gap/lane discipline to keep Cam from simply taking off and gashing us on every long yardage play.

We've been inconsistent all year, but overall everyone gets good grades for being "not Haslett"...

I think he gets more of a pass from me because I just feel like the defense has been out there more than they should have been. He doesn't get much of a pass...but he gets some.

I want to see how well he defends the Cowboys before my first Joe Barry grade. If he shuts Romo down then we will give him a passing grade.

Something he has been able to do consistently over the past few years.

Both offensive and defensive coordinators on hot seat.

Kirk showed bad judgement and execution in my opinion. Didn't seem to be in tune with the coaches or receivers.

Defense looks like last year, all NFC East teams will be bottom 8 in the league again.

On the plus side, good to get the Steelers out of the way. Bad karma watching two teams with same color pants.

Sean MacVay is not on the hot seat buddy. I wouldn't even suggest Barry is, yet. He has to get more creative, but guys...it's one game against a superior team. We have 15 more to go and we'll revisit things then. Now, if we shit the bed against the Turds next week, then you might be on to something.

3-4 needs to be junked.

Start Smith and Kerrigan as 4-3 defensive ends and Baker-Hood as the DTs.

Start Foster as the Mike linebacker at 250.

Revamp the secondary alignments to reflect that we do in fact have both free and strong safeties, not interchangeable ones.

Go back to the Petitbon and Bellichick formula of shutting down the opposition's #1 threat and challenging the lesser players to beat you.

We do the opposite. We allow good WRs and backs to have season best games against us.

Double team Antonio Brown and let Sammie Coates beat us one on one.

Last night he wouldn't have.

Other note to Barry - why are Golston and Reyes on this team?

Golston is a 33 year old backup that was paraded out as a potential starter.

Reyes was the lowest ranked starting DE in the NFL by PFF in 2015.

Why did we bring him here?

MacVay calling running plays or no? Jay says we did not have any balance. If you don't have a more balanced attack, you will be putting a premium on the timing of the run play called. I.e., for it to work, it must be at the right time down and distance and situation. If not, you get what you see....stuffed. The run cannot be an afterthought.

We will be playing right into Dallas' hands if we don't run more than pass against them. They are susceptible to be run gashed. Football 101. If we ignore that playcalling, we are downright dumb on the sidelines. I saw enough dumb already. Just how I see this game.

Dallas is weak at corner with Scandrick injured again. Their D is beatable via the pass, short and long.

While I agree about MacVay, Barry should be. He's had how much time to become "more creative" now ? When you go through a full season sucking, that should be a wake up call, and he's hit the snooze button..... Sure the Steelers are a much better team, but he had the entire off season to come up with something fresh for them. He didn't have the best running record as a DC when he got here, and it shows.

Well, it's hard to judge Barry when the GM eschews drafting dlinemen near the top half of the draft.

Maybe one of these days the Redskins Front Office will actually believe the "game is won up front" and then will follow through by actually acquiring defensive front talent.
