The Name Change

Read Facebook and certain people's comments makes me glad this board has intelligent and people who think before they go for a reaction from someone.
 
I saw this headline on twitter... the link was to the unnamed dc paper who hates the Redskins...so I didn't read it but I'm sure you can draw conclusions right from the headline...

One thing to also remember about her is she's married to Craig Melvin and, being part of an interracial marriage and having a biracial child, she may feel a bit more "need" to tow that line.

By the way... Craig Melvin is now at MSNBC, so... yeah...

Maybe, hadn't even crossed my mind because I just don't buy the "every black person" agrees that Redskins is racist. Why do I sense that from the communities outside of the fans of the Redskins? This is venturing off to unintended territory but because Snyder is white its considered racist by black people? Would black people think it was racist if the team was owned by a black man or woman? That's kinda racist. The whole thing is just retarded. I know, I'm not supposed to say that either.... **** me.

Actually, I'm not finding that to be the case at all here. Most people who are learning about the truth (partly because I'm educating them) find it rather insulting that people are comparing the 2 as "similar" at all.

Well I'm glad to hear that. It's a tone I've gotten recently for wayyyyy too much talk and sports talk radio. Calling the Redskins offensive seems to have become an automatic in many cases in most media outlets.

Yeah, I get asked about it alot from everyone as I wear my Redskins gear everywhere I go (also, have 3 Redskins tattoos so no matter what season, people ask). So, I hear it alot & what I get is people making jokes about me being racist, to which I often laugh, they laugh, & then I educate them. Most people, once I tell them OUR side, tend to side with us.

But you're right. The mediots don't tell our side, they only spin the PC agenda. So, many people are not getting the whole truth & are, as with all other "news stories" side one way or another, except in this case, there is no "other" for people to side on & because the way the media spins it, they make it seem as though our side is irrelevant because people are offended, end of story. No, not end of story.

I have sent numerous messages to Mike Wise with videos & related items on news that show him Natives who are not offended by the name, but are, in fact, offended by people like him who feel the need to speak for them as if they need yet another white man to "civilize the savages" as it were. I have also asked him..."what if the Redskins change their name & the number of Native Americans that are offended by the change now outweigh the amount of Native Americans who were offended by the name itself? What then?" Of course, I have received no response. But even ESPN did a poll the other day asking ALL of America to chime in & vote, should the Redskins change their name & overwhelmingly, the response was NO.

It's time to put this puppy to bed & lay it to rest, because unless major sponsors start pulling out, the name isn't going to change. And I, for one, am happy about that.

Well... that she's married to a black man who happens to now work for MSNBC. Combine those factors and the line must be towed. The rest will be ignored. Keep in mind progressives are allowed to change their opinions while libertarians and conservatives flip-flop.

I mean... I can picture her caving to whatever "pressure" is given to her.

Disappointed to hear that from her. I sent her an email after a nice write-up she did on Sean Taylor and she replied with a gracious email. I was surprised I got a response, so I thought she might be a reporter of a different sort.

Meh, I don't think it has to do with being married to a brother. I happen to be black & Indian (not NA), and none of my Skins loving friends and family think the name should change because it's racist. I think Lindsay changed her mind because it's "en vogue" for uninformed media to say "change the name, it's racist, blah, blah".

Imo opinion, it's actually MORE racist for white people to tell any minority group what should be offensive to THEM. It implies that they are not even smart enough to know what is offensive....So stupid.
 
Honestly, I have no problem with individuals who disagree and don't want to use that name to a certain extent. I have much more of a problem with organizations trying to outlaw the use of the name.

En vogue and her husband happens to work for MSNBC, so I'm sure there's a ton of peer pressure and she's in a position where she'd be very soft and squishy to that.

The Ravens, Rice, and the NFL have certainly taken the name from the front page over the last two days. Fair or not, that is what has happened. The top four comments section is Rice-centered and they keep posting stories on it. Their fans are getting a taste of what we have been through for many months.

When I see the pic of less than ten people protesting, that says it all. Quite frankly, it is a non issue. Florio is the one who really elevated the rhetoric last year and he has been relentless. I wonder what Snyder did to him.
