Random Commanders Thoughts

I'm not even going to comment or get excited/depressed about any of the reports in the early days. John Keim seems to be a little negative right now. This is going to take some time.

I just ask for no injuries.

One impression I've gotten so far - and it may be totally wrong, it's just a vibe I've gotten reading Gruden's quotes recently. I wonder if Gruden isn't a little overwhelmed early on by his role? We have been spoiled for most of the last 10 years by having head coaches who had an enormous amount if experience running a team. I get the feeling the organizational piece of being the Head Coach - planning, setting schedules, delegating, running meetings. When Gruden talks about all those aspects of the job, to me, he sounds stressed and a little unsure. God knows, going from a OC job to being the man must be a pretty overwhelming transition. I hope he is getting enough support so that he can focus on the big picture and not get mired down in the details.

A-yup... ;)

Yeah Jim Zorn made this guy look good. (ducking)

I'm glad to hear that they look rough and that they don't look perfect. Sounds honest for a change!

Good for him. Shanahan wasted 4 years trying to fit McNabb, Grossman and John Beck into the qb job and then letting RGIII stay in the Seattle game and suffer a severe injury.

Shanahan deserves to be vilified.

Just saw Fred Smoot reporting on camp, and he referred to Morgan Moses, simply as "Moseley"

I fail to see the resemblance. One has a curly head, and the other has a curly beard. That's where the similarities end.

Or did he get the nickname Moseley while I was unawares ?

I'm already tired of how the media takes every praise of the new coaches as a shot at Shannahan(s). Griffin's previous comments about ulterior motives were a direct shot at Shannahan. This, maybe is or maybe isn't a shot. But it's definitely a praise of Gruden and Mcvay. This pattern seems to have started after the playoff loss to Seattle. The media reads into every comment, writes their own narrative, and then makes it a story. Then before too long, it's definitely a battle between the two. The only difference now is there is only one side's comments to be read into.

I get you on this. But Griffin could also be the bigger man and let the past be the past. I'm not saying the media doesn't seize on every opportunity to turn something fairly innocuous into a 'controversy' - because I think they do that constantly. But Griffin is a little bit 'incongruent' at times with his words and his image of a military loving, disciplined, team-oriented pro not always matching up so well. I would prefer Griffin shut his pie hole and focus more on the task at hand - proving that he's the guy we all thought he was in year 1. I think he's trying to do that but he is 'sensitive' and has trouble not taking shots. I don't see that being good for anyone.

Shanahan made mistakes....no doubt about it. he also moved the ball forward....3 and 13 notwithstanding.

But here's what I know: RGIII, Gruden...and the rest of these pretenders...they haven't won squat. Shanahan coached teams won 2 SBs. These cats need to STFU in this regard....IMO

Do something. Then get on the soapbox and trash the folks they don't like...if they really believe that's the dignified path to walk.

Pretenders?

Yeah, 10-6 and winning the division 2 years ago isn't shit.

We should just cut him and start Cousins.

Yeah, I want Griffin to watch what he says and also not get baited into making comments about the past. It does him no good. It does the team no good. In many cases, I too wish he said less. But then again, last year he was ripped for not specifically addressing topics. He is still young and hopefully he is learning when to speak and what to say.

What I don't like is this pattern of taking praises of Gruden and saying "Oh, that's a shot at Shanahan. He never said this or that about Shanahan." Who cares! Maybe after last year, Griffin has learned to be more specific when commenting on his coaches. I guess I wish people would just take his comments for what they are worth. If he has his own ulterior motives, that will show and we as fans or the media won't have to parse his words.

The media wants a quote...he wants to give them a quote

the quote was read wrong..it wasn't said wrong. if you look at the quote for face value he is actually giving his coaches credit for believing in him and being on the same page. the kid is acting positive and trying to shove all of that nonsense out the door and just speak on this year.

man, I hope this season doesn't become another one where we put Griffin under the microscope. I dont know if my heart can handle another 16 weeks of it.

If we have to go down this road...ok!

Yea...pretenders. I'm speaking to accomplishment...and the only one that matters in the NFL is winning the SB.

Shanahan has...oh...what would you call it...I know: street cred!! he's actually, end-to-end, won it. twice. none of these other folks have. until they do...I'd think they'd keep to themselves...do what it takes to accomplish the ONLY goal that matetrs...certainly from a team perspective...in the NFL. then...they can talk tough.

that's just me...I concede. "Shit" for 10-6 is your word. not mine. but...when measured against what is the presumable goal for all teams...it's meaningless. borrrowing a phrase from another sport I knida like: Tiger Woods "Second place is for the first loser".

the only thing that matters is winning the SB?

OK, so Marino is a pretender, Philip Rivers is a pretender, most players from the NFL are pretenders.

Look at what Shan did without Elway, Sharpe, and Davis. His numbers steadily declined until he ended up pissing away a 4 game divisional lead and losing in week 17. Street cred? No, Elway doing the helicopter spin for a crucial 1st is cred, Davis playing thru a migraine is cred. Shanahan? He was there and not a power monger like Dan Reeves.

If second place is for first losers then you are now calling Peyton Manning a loser. If you are calling Peyton Manning a loser and think Russell Wilson is a better QB than him just let me know and we can just stop it.

That's not entirely true Mike. When you say that 'these coaches don't have an agenda' - you are implying pretty clearly that the former coaches did. He makes a lot of comments like that - it might be passive-aggressive behavior but he definitely does it. Look - I don't fault him for the way he feels. But he gives the media more opportunities to seize onto words than he should. Bottom line, a lot of the drama bullshit is a direct result of coming off a 3-13 season. We weren't hearing most of this stuff when we were division champs. Success is the only thing that will change the focus of the media. Period.

Shanahan has...oh...what would you call it...I know: street cred!!

He HAD street cred. I think most of that has evaporated and his reputation now is cemented as a stubborn, ego-centric, control freak. That may not be fair, but I didn't see any teams clamoring over themselves to hire him to run their team when the Redskins moved on.

Didn't they? I know we all knew what Shan was doing. Shan showed major signs of power control with Haynesworthless whether right or wrong. He is a Coughlin type of coach where it is his way or the highway. Well, Griffin was brought in here to succeed not to feed the ego of a HC who was too old and didnt care as much.

I applaud him for being honest and upfront. It will hopefully make it all go away faster. If we are at week 8 after a big win and he takes a shot at the Shanahan's I will agree its too far. But this is the first time he has been on the podium after being benched due to whatever dumb reasons the Shans gave.
