E, sorry I haven't gotten time to reply or post. I got to shoot three games, and I never did get to see the pics I shot with a borrowed camera.

No need for help Pete! Great shots! Man how I wish I could get on the sideline with my camera. One day I am sure I will find myself down there.

I saw an interesting article on getting a pass to the sidelines of the NFL for amateurs. I know you had the pleasure because of your service over at ES, but it is very difficult for an amateur because the pros do not want people to infringe on their territory if you will. I tend to believe that. Every time I get the opportunity to get on the sidelines at Training Camp, the guys on the sideline there are kinda snobbish.
 
I have to agree shooting twice in Tampa, and the dream shot in DC about the pros.

Positioning on the sidelines is critical, and you don't see it on TV, but the still photographers tend to run up and down the sidelines trying to anticipate where the next action will be. You often find yourself or somebody else shooting over the back of a guy kneeling. I don't remember the play, but I'm kneeling and I pumped my fist into the air to cheer not realizing another guy was directly above me shooting. Fist hits his lens, slamming the camera body into is face.

You want to talk about pissed off, and I really can't blame him. As he said, I shouldn't be rooting if I'm shooting in not so many nice words. I apologized profusely as he ranted and scurried off shaking his head in disbelief. It was so hard not to get caught up in everything going on.

I met one pro photographer on the field at the Lions game, and he was the coolest guy you could meet. He was very complementary looking at my shots, giving me tips, and generally making me feel welcome there. He was pretty much the exception. Not that the pros were nasty or anything, just not so friendly for the most part.

That's was the gist of the article, and understandably so. That and they suggested that if you want to find a way onto the field, then go out and get a degree in photography, build up your resumé and get a job on the sideline like the men who are there.

I am a pro, but my experience is not in sports' photography. I have a colleague/former co-worker who is an official photographer for the Ravens. He is in his late 20's and one of his first responsibilities for the Ravens was to go to the Dominican Republic to photograph the Cheerleader's calendar. LOL! Kid is extremely talented!
 
Picture of the Day: Capturing a Full Day in a Single Photograph

The 'day part' is composed of a dozen of shots covering the landscape from east to west and the Sun's course from sunrise to sunset. The Sun's position was recorded exactly every 15 minutes using an intervalometer, with an astrosolar filter adjusted to the camera lens. In one of the shots, when the Sun was near it's maximum altitude, I removed the filter in order to capture a more 'dramatic' shot with the Sun's glare. After the sunset, I took various shots with the camera facing west - northwest in order to achieve a more smooth transition from the 'day part' to the 'night part' of the picture. The 'night part' is also composed of a dozen of shots covering the landscape from west to east. After the 'transition' shots I mentioned above, I took a small startrail sequence, with approximately half an hour duration, and the camera facing northwest. Then at 19.13 local time, I turned the camera to north and I started taking the all-night startrail which lasted almost 11 hours. After the 11 hour startrail I turned the camera to northeast and I shot a half an hour startrail, and finally with the camera at northeast and east some 'night to day' transition shots.

Took this one of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge this past Friday with the 50 mph winds. It was an awesome day to be at the Bay.

I'm not losing sleep over the 'broken template' - no harm done, just not as aesthetically pleasing ...

I shot this image over the weekend. This is my uncle, the oldest living member of my family, and a 3rd cousin, the youngest member of my extended family. I think this might be one of my favorite images I have taken to date.
