When: Friday, August 28th 2026 - 6:00 PM ET
Where: M&T Bank Stadium - Baltimore, MD

notes:

The two teams will have a joint practice in Baltimore on Wed - 8/26 - ahead of this game... discussion and report thread for that practice here:

This may be the DUMBEST idea the schedule makers have ever had, starting a regional game (the 3rd preseason game at that) between two teams separated by 40 miles in the middle of rush hour traffic on a Friday evening.... traffic is gonna suck, and attendance may be TERRIBLE

AK should honestly get this entire game, like Buechele just did for the Bills. We don’t need to waste snaps on Hartman, he shouldn’t even be a PS player. AK has the chance to be the cheap backup QB of the future, give him every snap and a whole game to get in a rhythm, it’s likely the last work he’ll see this season unless we get really unlucky.

It really is a complete clownshow that Hartman is still on the roster. The team opted to go sign guys off other teams’ practice squads like Driskell to ensure Hartman wouldn’t play

It really isn't. With Mariota hurt, you just need an extra arm. You don't want Athan playing the entire preseason game. Hartman's an arm. He's probably only going to last until Sunday's cuts.

Agreed they need an arm in camp with Marcus out, but the ship sailed on Hartman being any good a long time ago. Everyone can see it and no one is arguing. So I have to agree moreso with the sentiment that it’s absolutely ridiculous that he’s still on the roster. Guys like that are a dime a dozen and there are plenty available, even some on their couch, that could give us more. We’ve known this for a while and so as much as I want to be supportive AP, this has been a waste of a roster spot at the most important position on the field.

Why? Other teams do it with their developing backups in game 3. There’s no reason not to do so when you only have one developmental guy on the roster. And bonus points because unlike Hartman, he allows you to eventuate your depth skill position players as well.

I’m not expecting them to actually cut Hartman until cutdowns, he’s been on the roster with the same weaknesses this whole time. But there’s no reason he needs to play this week unless AK gets hurt. I’m sure he will, I just don’t agree with it. Game 3 is a great time to let a future backup get in a whole game of live reps and see what that feels like, series to series working with the QB coach and OC, etc. Opportunities for that are rare and you want him to be the future off-the-bench guy for years to come.

I'm with you here.. Hartman or AK are going to be on the PS, and from what we've seen the 'safer' move would be to put Hartman on the PS and keep AK on the 53. I don't think AK makes it to the PS if i'm being honest. Capable QB play is the 2nd most valuable thing in the NFL behind only Elite QB play. AK likely gets grabbed off the wire imho.

I think you're entire focus on him now is grooming him to become your long term back up... Getting him reps now accelerates that. We know what Hartman is at this point, and he's actually having a relatively good camp / preseason. He's earned his role, 3 years in, it's not likely to get bigger... AK's is just getting started.

Well, Hartman is more like half an arm.

I agree with method man , Driskell > Hartman. He has a real NFL arm and could legitimately lead the team.

Hope to see lots of the Greek getting snaps from Gulbin (unless they bring in that vet C)

Has there been any reporting on what they are doing at QB? I also agree they should start AK. And play him the entire game.

I disagree, however, with those who think AK is going to the PS. I think it's a lock AK makes the season opening roster. For whatever reason they like to carry 3 QBs, and with Mariota's injury, I think that seems even more likely this year.

Do I think he could get to the PS? Yes. In order for him to be poached, he would have to get claimed off of waivers and added to another team's 53. I don't see that happening. I could see competition from other teams for PS. But in the end, I think they could get him to the PS.

I just don't think they're going to

If El Greco makes the 53, there's no reason to retain Hairmann on the PS.

I think BMitch and Riggo are both wrong. AK is making it to the PS if they want him to.

Well shit. That’s not what you want to see on the first play from scrimmage.
