As for Kingsbury, though, I agree it was annoying. Even more annoying was his late substitutions near the goal line. Not just that he did it, but kept making the same mistake over and over again. KK completely lived up to his reputation here. Comes out on fire, but things get stale when defenses figure out what he’s doing, and he fails to ever adjust. This is one of the main reasons why I was in the good riddance camp when it came to letting him go.

I mean, they scorched the lions in the playoffs and the offense wasn’t close to why they got blown out in the championship game.

The offense in 2024 was elite. And it wasn’t all Daniels. Kliff put the players in position to make plays.

It fell apart in 2025 when we had essentially a practice squad offense because of injury.

I think it’s fine to acknowledge that Kliff wasn’t perfect, but he was also the best OC we had since McVay, and it’s not remotely close.

Is it better to have a more traditional offense? Maybe. Was it time to move on? Maybe. Im personally fine with them moving on assuming it works out the same or better.

However I think there is a lot of diminishing what he did accomplish while he was here.
 
I totally agree with you VoR. There's a tendency when the team makes controversial decisions (and letting Kingsbury walk when you didn't have to was a surprise to almost all NFL observers) towards revisionist history. He did a very good job in DC. I get some of the nitpicking - it may be that he wasn't flexible enough, that his philosophy didn't mesh well with Quinn's (something Quinn should've known up front), and that his style of offense too often put Jayden at risk for injury.

But our offense put up points and was effective. Replacing him with a completely inexperienced and unproven guy - it better work out. If it doesn't Quinn deserves to lose his job.
 
Well, I simply disagree about Kliff. I think ignoring his failures and fully crediting Kliff after Jayden performed miracles is also revisionist history.

He had a large amount of flaws in his scheme and him pretending the scheme was infallible was whacko. His play calling became worse and worse. He backed his decisions with antiquated theories that have been proven wrong over time.

Where do you come up with something like that? I'm pretty sure if anyone ever asked him if his system was perfect he would say emphatically not. He was calling plays for guys who just got picked up off the street for God's sake. His offenses produced - even with marginal talent and despite record-setting injuries. Yes - Jayden was a massive factor in that. But he wasn't the only factor. And it's noteworthy that Jayden Daniels was openly campaigning to keep Kingsbury - I think that might say something.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with the thread topic, and I doubt any of us (including me) has anything new or profound to say on the topic of Kliff.

That’s maybe a hyperbolic way of saying that he seemed unwilling at times to adjust. And his point about the scheme being antiquated is spot on imo. There’s a reason successful teams like the ravens and Eagles are going to a similar scheme to the one we are. It’s what’s working around the league, currently. And I’m glad we’re doing it going forward, even if it means we have to break in a rookie OC. Note the Ravens and Eagles are also breaking in rookie OCs, albeit guys with more coaching experience overall than our guy. Of course, a little more experience would be ideal, I’ll grant you that, but I don’t agree that Quinn should be fired if he doesn’t hit the ground running at full speed. Give it a minute.

As for Jayden campaigning to keep him, that actually came from his mommy. I know you don’t like hearing about that subject, but do we really know whether it’s coming from him or her?? I know who wasn’t interested in him as an OC… The rest of the league.

Maybe infallable was not the exact word used but this was criticism mentioned by local reporters from Quinn.

Kliff preferred to not adjust game plans to opponents and only did marginal adjustments because he thought his scheme and his normal plans were capable of beating any defense.

The changes done week to week were minimal, instead it was coaching how to interpret what opposing defenses would do against his scheme and who would then be covered and open. He thought his scheme would have openings always.

This frustration by Quinn existed back in 2024 too.

It also doesn't help that a lot of the big plays by Terry McLaurin when he was lined up on the right were only possible after direct campaigning to Kliff by the players to switch things up.

Kliff is definitely stuck in his ways.
 
Brother - all good coaches believe in their approach and systems. In fact, you can argue that many of the very best were the most stubborn in regards to how they wanted to operate.

The bottom line - what I will continue to push back hard against - is that Kingsbury was a failed OC who needed to be replaced. He wasn’t and he didn’t. If Quinn felt he was a bad fit for what he ultimately envisioned a Jayden Daniels offense looking like, he absolutely had the right to make a change. His future as a HC probably rides on the two new coordinators success or failure and that is how it should be. But we dont need to trash Kliff Kingsbury to justify the move.
